I'm personally fine with learning AI and using GPT in the future; I'm going to finish up the translation projects I'm working on and then stop to reevaluate how I want to translate games in the future. If there's a game that piques my interest where I want to translate personally/manually, I'll do so but privatize it for myself.

Anyway, that's enough word vomit from me as this is tangential to the game at hand. My apologies.
May I ask why privatize after going through all the effort?
And no no, it's interesting to read your perspective.

lol, the interest on my end is always there. What I'm arguing is that the NEED doesn't seem to be. I feel like I've reiterated constantly, but it's not worth my time/energy to make fan translations if Dazed's MTLs/GPT (AI translation, whatever you wanna call it) is sufficient for the community. To his/her credit, I think they do a fine job (or at least, GPT does), at least in terms of coherency, although just checking the original Japanese in the game for 10 minutes, I can see that GPT has already missed some slang and context, and the GPT words certain phrases strangely. However, I don't think the community knows nor cares. Therefore, it just seems like MTL is the future in terms of translation, not because it's necessarily BETTER, but because it's much quicker and easier, and the community is fine with it for the most part.

Well, if you ever decide to release a translation for this game, I'll appreciate it as I have when you made one for Silent Pill a while back. You went above and beyond with that one, though I forget if you were working on a translation for the second game in that series.

I've worked with translators elsewhere who have experimented with MTL writing and I also have a lot of intimate knowledge and experience with how AI works in general. Regardless, your point is, well, pointless. Even if I couldn't say so for sure, why can you just imaginate the truth because of that? Okay, lol.

Spending five minutes of research on Dazed would have shown you how he had to create his own front/back end (I forgot which) to make translating easier overall and for specific games. A lot of work goes into mtool, and it's still imperfect. ChatGPT needs a lot of guidance. People who say AI can do X with 1 click always speak from biased ignorance. If you want basic garbage, sure. At this point though it's like throwing on a filter in photoshop or instantgram. That's not going to cut for anything that isn't casual junk.

There is a reason why people still generally dislike MTL.

As for your other point, VNs are very rarely released here. This isn't a VN site, and the ones that ARE released here are just mostly straight up pron more than story + pron.

What I was trying to get across is a lot of the games that are released here are NSFW indies with writing that already isn't good, so much isn't lost by MTL. In fact, I argue that makes it a better target for the hack jobs. People DO care, but just not for 90% of the games get that released here.

Your post also comes off as a bit bitter. I'd take a step back and really think about whether you really care about this community or yourself more here. I've read officially translated works of a lot of games that had fan translations beforehand. 99% of these games don't have worthwhile writing to begin with, and an official translation did nothing to change my opinion or enjoyment of many of those games.

What MTL has done, on the other hand, is help with a lot of games that would be hard to play with moon runes or that are too niche for many translators to care about, all at a pretty good pace. It does still require work too. It's been a huge boon to fans of these games, especially since pron game translation has always been niche itself.

For what it's worth, people have traditionally favored hand translations here over MTL and still do. I think most people would agree with that. But most people also aren't going to sit around twiddling their thumbs praying some randamo will translate their specific game and actually have the discipline to follow through to the end within a reasonable timeframe while a decent MTL exists.

MTL opens what was once an extremely limited door, which means more translators, which means more translations, and the quality improves every year. This is one case where I can only see AI as an objective win for people wanting to play these games. I also don't see why it would stop a hand translation, as they're generally preferred anyway, but these days I'd honestly be careful about which games I pick. Dazed seems to be doing that too, and hasn't hit much friction with his MTLs because they're not only good but also of games that probably wouldn't benefit too much from a hand translation.

And saying people don't care about story is hilarious. MGQ only blew up in popularity because of its story, which, I remind you, was surprising exactly because no one expects pron stories to be decent let alone fairly good. There are also a ton of text sandboxes/rpgs that have a lot fans, and that's basically all story. But again, this isn't really the site for those kind of works either. I'm part of the VN community too, and though the desperate make do with what they have, that community still hates machine translations overall and for good reason.

I think learning to translate via AI is a good idea. If you actually understand Japanese, you could use MTL as a tool alongside your knowledge to make things easier, or nitpick which games you hand translate. It would also help with any context/culture/setting word choice issues you come across.

Is the game related to the first game of the dev (Goblin Conqueror)? It seems that at most it only shares the same world, but the characters are different (did not play both games yet)? Their eye colors are different, and the artist of this game probably likes drawing white haired and black-haired characters. Or maybe the artist just forgot the details about eye color, IDK.

This game is solidly better than the first one, and I thought the first one was a good start for a h game series

The main character of this one is different one to the secondary character in Goblin Conqueror. But it is set after that game, and Kaname (MC from Goblin Conqueror) does make an appearance.
