I wouldn't expect a faster than previous content pace or more in those releases though. The bottleneck will always be the image creation side since it would take the most time to do generally. Not sure how the alpha/beta's went with script/translation corrections but perhaps it would speed up that aspect if it played a part previously.

I hope BlueCat jumps on the MTL stuff and gets it done, hopefully doesn't have problems getting a proof reader although I also feel like alpha/beta could help fill this. Perhaps a 'play tester' so the lines can be read in context of what's on screen and then make adjustments prior to final release.

Also you're incorrect, Blue did actively have to throttle the amount he writes to not overload Latecomer, generally speaking he breathes this stuff and is obsessive about writing, but you are correct there is a hard limit as to images. There's only so much a person can do in a monthly cycle when translating, but a machine can translate whatever the fuck you put in it. So then he can write closer to what his ideal limit for images are and probably extend update length by a solid click of time. I think he said he dropped about 30% of what he actually wanted to write generally per update?

The problem with that comparison is that all those were many hundreds or thousands of employees working around the clock with years and years of experience in the field, putting together pre-made components (especially the latter two; those timescales are not from first creation of material, but in the former is putting together all the modular pieces that were premade and then sealing them together, and the latter the blocks were already assembled and just needed to be put into place in the framework of the skyscraper).

If it leads to a better game I'll have no complaints but I'll always refer to the quality vs quantity debate where it depends on the game and I think games like these I generally lean more towards quality than quantity. I am absolutely all for the slow burn on stuff (The Expanse show is top tier on delivery in this aspect IMO, love that show) but if you take into consideration the planned length of this game for example I don't think it's a slow burn, it will just end up as a whole lot of filler that will likely burn everyone out.

I digress though since it's just speculation on how it might turn out until we get it for ourselves and I can make a proper judgement on how I feel about it.

Well, um, I'm just guessing here but I'd say Latecomer, the coder or programmer, whatever word, has years of experience otherwise why hire someone that doesn't know anything (at this point I think thats what has happened its just taken this long for him to learn). The month 1 merge already has all 3 weeks made. Soooo, pre-made components. See what I'm getting at? Years of experience? Pre made weeks? Latecomer is not starting from a planning phase or drawing board phase. All the weeks are already made. A member named Dukez already proved that it should take hours to merge, not years.

The machine learning translation itself is... fine, great even. I'd argue it just comes across as a different take almost, but in some of them it seemed like the better translation and others would just need proof reading and minor touch ups. E.g, one was clearly missing some commas to deliver the line properly, and where it mentioned "full of vigour and drive to get dressed and thus prepare for the new school day" you could manually change to be more in line with how one might think it should sound (energy, get ready, etc).

Late reply, but the missing commas come from the German source missing them too. So if there's proof reading for the source, the ml will turn out better too.

On that note, I actually prefer the ml translation a bit, both are good, but ml is closer to the meaning of the German. Latecomer added some words here and there and changed the meaning a tiny bit, but nothing major. It's a matter of taste, but I don't like something like that much in translations.
All mistakes I have seen came from the source, so ml itself works great.

That's old news. The translator issue is seemingly solved, and it was never for the merge, but for future days. The merge has been sidelined for new content.

I didn't follow this thread for a long time, but iirc bluecat said he was working on new content back when i last checked and that was arround the halloween update...

Put it this way, Bluecat is doing the thing people were saying he should have done before, and is releasing content while the Merge is done in the background. While Latecomer still needs to finish his work, Bluecat will work in parallel to start releasing new content again to get stuff back underway.

I don't really want to come across as mean but there's not really a nice way to ask this question. Why is latecomer even still on the team at all? As a programmer myself, everytime latecomer himself has said what he's doing with the merge it's been very obviously a lie (not talking about the usual digs at the dev team about missing deadlines but just straight up what he was saying he was doing either made no sense, was factually incorrect, or was far simpler to do than he made it sound). Frankly, it seems he is wholly incompetent as a coder and would be very easy to replace in that sense. Additionally, since the MTL issue came up, going by what most of the actual German speakers have said, it sounds like he is terrible at translations as well. I just don't see what he adds to the team at this point. Since the merge itself is basically on the backburner right now it would be the perfect opportunity to find a competent coder that could replace him since there would be plenty of time for them to get familiar with the code while the next couple updates come out.

Again, I know how the question comes across but I'm just genuinely curious as to why he would still be on the team given everything.

1. Can I install/extract the main 16 gb file then extract and copy week 2 and 3 over and just play the entire thing or do i have to week one do a playthrough then 2 then playthrough then 3

2. I thought I read all the holiday specials are standalone is this correct? And while it says there are patches for all the standalones thought I saw some missing. Also with the main game can I just load the day 21 patch along with extracting all three weeks at once?

3. Walkthrough - can I ask where I can find the latest and what works with what?

That's literally the opposite of what I just said. Supposedly the big issue was getting translators to stick around. Skummy convinced him to go with machine translation for now, and with the examples shown a few days, the translation is looking better than Latecomer's translation.

Sidelined may have been a poor choice of words on my part, but it seems like it's no longer the main focus anymore.

1. They're currently independent of each other. You can carry over saves, but that's it. And you can skip weeks, if you want.
2. Yeah, the specials are standalone, and some have been implemented into the main game as flashbacks or dream sequences. As for what patches you need: For Week 1 you need "Week 1 - Final". For Week 2, you need "Day 8-14 - Final Release" and for Week 3, you need "Day 20+21 - Final".
3. There's no traditional walkthrough, but if Week 1 has Lain's mod, which will tell you what each choice leads to. Week 2 and Week 3 have something like that implemented by default.

Why is latecomer even still on the team at all?

I don't think we'll ever get an answer too this, my head canon is maybe they're personal friends or something so it'll never change since it seems like business comes second is the impression I've gotten over time otherwise this would already be a solved problem. Ecchi Sensei must come 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc I dunno) to the other games Latecomer also works on (I know of 1) which seems to release on schedule as far as I know.

If there was more details on how exactly the merge is supposed to work on the back end (saves etc) and the future someone could've easily just ported and made said version, then offered it to BlueCat for $40k cause that's seem fair TBH.

I'm not so sure that Latecomer *can* be easily thrown off the team.

If I understand correctly, then BC is writing the german script and doing the renders.
And if previous posts are to be believed, making the images is not all that much work with the systems in use.
I'm not bringing this up to attack BC here. It's about something else.

Latecomer did the coding, management and translations.
While translations generally might not seem hugely important, these are translations *to* english and not *from* english. So they are extremely important for the success of the game.
So possibly, Latecomer might have put as much work into the first three weeks as BC did.
(I agree that much of what we heard about the coding of the merge was BS, but I'm talking about the first three weeks here.)

It's not that easy to let the guy go that created half of your product...

Now, this is speculation. But BC and Latecomer are RL friends right?
So, suppose that BC had the idea and Latecomer helped make it happen.
Then it seems possible that he did half of the work without receiving half of the income...
Making it even more difficult to let him go.

I don't know whether this is true but at least it seems like a plausible explanation.
