Ocean is certainly slow when it comes to releasing updates, and doing another game besides WIAB probably isn’t helping. But I suspect the biggest problem is his relentless perfectionism.
SuperWriter is, as you said, a good example of a dev who can work multiple games at the same time.
Doc5252, Killer7 and NekoSama are other devs who continue to release material at a high tempo and with quality despite working on multiple games, and there are more examples.
But certainly the roadside is littered with abandoned games, sometimes because the dev overstretched and tried to do two games at once. I’d say there are more games aboned for other reasons though. Like not finding an audience, losing interest, overcomplicating the project, dying …
Single/small team dev "working on multiple games and producing quality content in timely manner" is a thing that doesnt exist, to the best of my knowledge.
Above mentioned devs/good examples such as superwriter, and particularly those two of "yours" Doc5252 and "NekoSama" aka Neko-Hime (I had to search for those
), dont fit into that category imo. Yup, they manage multiple games simultaneously, yet the quality of those projects is more than questionable. Superwriter is the best in that regard, while Doc5252 and Neko-guy arent worth mentioning, if we are talking of (only) average-to-good games levels.
Killer7 has two games (Im familiar with the second one), yet Im guessing his first game is near to be finished or so.
Regardless, imo, the most games get abandoned at early stages, mostly due to low funding, aka when devs expect quick cash-grab, and they fail there. IRL is major cause of abandoning steady projects, I agree, yet we arent talking here of the main reasons for abandoning projects - we are talking of risks and impacts when single dev, or a small team, decide to make multiple games at the same time. Im standing to what I have said previously - those things very rarely are successful, and usually lead to slowing down projects, getting on-holds, abandoning etc.
I do hope that will not be the case here...*
and now comes the most common line*- time will tell, as always.
