>Remember some idiots trying to make a multiplayer porn game back in like 2018
>Hunt it down because it was bretty gud
>It's ONLINE
>They put fucking DENUVO on it

Man remember the young and naïve days where we thought artists being able to profit off their art would lead to some great renaissance or whatever. I was prepared for the world to be cold and cruel but this is just gay and stupid. And not the fun kind of gay and stupid. the really stupid kind of gay and stupid.

And instead, it resulted in every single artist each asking for $10/month subscription to view their art uncensored and in non-potato quality, plus the fun "perks only available for subscribers of this month" driving up FOMO.

Plus games after games being teased only to die in development hell.

Let me preface this post by saying that there's a lot of content creators with admirable work ethic - delivering content on time, of expected quality, being transparent with their supporters about what they're doing, informing them not to pledge for next month if they foresee issues maintaining their release schedule etc., but the vast majority use crowdfunding to let their worst instincts take over.

Kickstarter taught me that many a gaming auteur has-been needs a boot pressing down on their necks firmly to get anything done. People can rightfully shit on the likes of Kotick as much as they want, but at least under their gentle hand developers are actually forced to release something, instead of spending years spinning their wheels.

Helius has to be one of the worst offenders of the lot - at least with most of them, they just faff about but eventually deliver. Helius, on the other hand, screwed everyone over - and the current project is so far from what was originally promised that it might as well be a completely different game.

Kotick isn't any better than Helius, Overwatch 2 players were overdosing on the same copium as OL fans. An early access game built on the corpse of an older better one that's monetized to hell and back because dude bro dawg that money is going to future content so it's okay for the game to be a massive ripoff. Then the future content never comes, the fans look like gullible idiots, and everyone has a bad time. Except the executives because they all made fat $$$.

Wasn't talking about Kotick specifically, but the fact game developers have for years been crying crocodile tears about the evil corporate businessmen not letting them make good games, and yet when they were given the chance to make their dream game, a true passion project, most of them ended up delivering nothing, and the few that did "finish" their project just ended pushing a rotting corpse out the door.

AAA publishers in general then, Kotick just happened to have a few choice fuckups from recent memory. The irony of billion dollar studios switching to the exact same development model pioneered by indie darlings because it turned out to be amazing for scams is great.

Almost 10k drop in patreons eh? Well at this rate it won't be too long till they have to abandon denuvo because the cost will outweight the gain.
The Denuvo thing will hit them hard. Just think about it, companies usually go for denuvo to secure sales for the first year of their releases, then drop it afterward. We saw this in many AAA games before but Operation Fallen Doll hasn't even been released yet, they are paying for protection to protect an excuse of an early access game.
