Are all levels going to be similar in style to Electric? Meaning a hub with multiple paths to unlock another path for a boss fight?
Yeah, that'll be the basic gist of the levels; your objective/macguffin for each level will be different (getting the 6 pieces of the celodst emperor's crown, getting all the vines blocking the way to a Fragment chopped down, etc.), but the functionality will be the same.

So every public update is nothing more then a one level demo?
Yeah, and even the Patreon builds are standalone levels; this is because with each new level, we're also introducing new global gameplay mechanics.

For example, by the time we moved on from the Ice Level, we also introduced Powerups, the new Hub Map system, a Mini-map, and so on. When we moved on from the Electric Level, we introduced the Megamap, dynamic music/lighting, the cutscene editor/system, and many other features. And now, already in the Earth Level, we've introduced the new "fixed" powerup locations, multiple tilesets, enemy health bars, and so on.

The problem though is that in doing this, the previous levels would need to be updated with these mechanics, and they will, eventually; however, we're leaving this for until the end of the game, once we've functionally gotten a good chunk of all 5 levels done.

Then, we'll be able to sweep back in one shot and add all these mechanics to all the previous levels as we flesh out the previous levels with cutscenes and features that they didn't have due to their previously outdated state; if we updated all the levels as we added mechanics and tweaked them, that would be a lot of compatibility testing for every single tweak which would turn into a massive time drain to do so.

Doing it this way allows us to get the game out faster, for the updates to be consistent, and for the updating of the engine to be consistent as well without many bugs on the first sweep, vs. leaving a trail of bugs everywhere.

Just curios I am not going to deal with Patreon (sorry but with what they've done to game devs.....) Can you get it somewhere else? I saw your comment about releasing the full or finished game on a host of 'pay to download' sites. But can you get the current updated versions from others sites?
You can get the game demos on many of the sites on the front page, and come release, we'll have it on many, many sites to sell, but Patreon will be the cheapest purchase price (at around $10) while the other sites will be $15-$20 to deal with the loss in profits we'd take from the publisher's cut of sales.

The demos after the Public Electric Demo aren't getting released publicly, they're for Patrons only, but of course, I'm not about to DMCA anyone pirating them as I talked about a page or two ago.

(That said, Patreon actually is a massive savior to adult game devs; prior to them, the feasibility of actually making an adult western game was practically impossible unless you wanted to take an extremely long time to finance it yourself with your day job, and even now most sites take a minimum of 30% of profits and that's if you're lucky, with DLSite taking a minimum of 40% and upwards of 70%.

Patreon only takes 10%.

Additionally, Patreon gives multiple warnings to creators to try and help them out to abide by the credit card company's guidelines (Patreon themselves has to abide by the credit card companies, they themselves have said they allow adult illustrated content as long as it falls within the credit card companies guidelines, which they, nor any other business on the planet can fight, as the credit card companies have an extremely tight iron grip on everything that uses money in any way (besides crypto currencies, of course)).

Any other company whatsoever in Patreon's line of work tbh would have just wiped all adult game devs off the site to avoid all risk and rake in investors for SFW content, and they definitely wouldn't be giving multiple chances to the devs to fix their stuff to stay on the site, and their rate of income they take from us is literally the lowest out of ANY site online.

So if anything, we should be thanking Patreon for sticking it out like this for us when they have no obligation to do so.)

This might sound too demanding, but isnt there a way to host it on a website that you own, and sell it from there, without having to be on Patreon or any other 3rd party site?

The reason I'm asking is, if I give you $10 for the game, ideally I'd like you to receive $10 not $9.
Why would I (as a consumer/customer on this specific product) want to give Patreon any money anyway?

Unfortunately, doing so would cost us an arm and a leg in not only bandwidth and hosting fees, it would also open us up to a lot of other fees and financial hassles that would destroy our free time and finances, including;

- VAT tax for everyone in the EU, which by law we have to calculate and get the information of every single person buying the game from there if you're from there; Patreon and other sites take care of this for us.

- Adult processing fees; credit card companies charge exorbitant fees if you want to sell your content on a site like that, both just to start up a site for that (thousands of dollars) and them taking a much higher percentage of each sale as a result.

- PayPal is allowed on Patreon and Itch.io and other sites, but selling it directly using that again opens us up to get banned by PayPal per their rules, which would make us miss out on a massive amount of sales.

- Most of the sites we're selling on have multiple payment possibilities for people around the world besides Visa and MasterCard, but getting them for the average indie producer again entails a lot of legal and financial snares and time sinks.

- If the webmaster owners of the server our website is on decide they don't like our content they can shut us down, or even worse, your average website like this has no protection against a DDoS attack or people hacking into it in general, which larger sites usually have protection against.

And those are just the main issues, there's a huge benefit to us having someone else handle all that stuff and more.

In that case, I really wonder about the usefulness of most of the power ups. Maybe it's just my personal playstyle, but...
While playing electric, I only used movement based power ups (jump, low grav, etc). Then, once I'd finished the boss puzzle and was able to warp directly back to him, pure damage increasing.

Do others use different loadouts?

I know about what they claim, thats not why. Their censorship rules put a strangle on Devs, its the censorship part that has seen a number of donors leave. And they give little to no warning to Devs they just freeze their accounts, and its the Dev that needs to find out why. The Devs vision of the game and content they want to put in it should be hindered.

And beg people not to clog up the thread with replies, or new posts over this. Please keep it about HentaiWrites very cool game. :extremelyhappy:

Personally I was using the power-up that increases speed and jump height, and 2 damage increasing power-ups.
Then, when I reached the boss and failed the first time, I switched to 2 defensive power-ups that reduce damage you take, plus 1 damage increasing p-up.
I felt this is kinda cheesy, so I plan to go back and beat the boss with different power-ups.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I cheesed the boss with those cheap power-ups hehe.
Edit: I just used 1 incoming damage-reducing power-up, and it worked just as well. I think the boss is just kinda easy.

P.S. Btw the bar of soap never worked for me. It says that it only works on first path completion, so maybe thats why.

There's 50 total powerups in the game; we so far only have 18 or so in-game, and most of those are the "lower tier" ones, which we'll be reworking along the way, but others have drastically different effects (hover jump, shooting diagonally/up, shooting multiple shots at once, shooting down while in mid air to levitate yourself some, poisoning enemies, blowing enemies up to damage other enemies) etc.

Also remember that enemies in each level are very different in design and functionality, as well as the level mechanics, so different powerups would be used in different levels/situations :p

Just to be clear, that is actually the reason; that's not a claim, that's how it is in this industry. I've spent a good year or two over the years researching financial stuff regarding this, legal things, etc. and while I'm not a lawyer, that is definitely the reason that Patreon and every other provider like this (Steam, Nutaku, Fakku, MangaGamer, JAST, MakerSupport, you name it) has to abide by those exact same rules; it's the credit card companies.

Again, they do freeze the accounts, yes, but they do send emails immediately explaining specifically why they've been frozen, and they do post their ToS in plain-text publicly as well as giving people multiple chances to fix their infractions. They also do warn people in some cases, as like what happened to my friend, without closing down accounts, for minor infractions.

Any other site would just instantly delete their accounts, wouldn't reply to their emails, and would give them no way to do anything about it. Honestly, any other site would just wipe the porn from the site, period, because it would be a lot less hassle from them (ex. Facebook, Twitch, YouTube, every other website dealing with any amount of SFW content, etc.)

I do agree that their vision and what they want to put in shouldn't be hindered, but Patreon is very low on the totem pole in regards to being able to fight against that, which is why I don't blame them and in fact am very grateful that they do run their business as they do, because without them, this scene would be heavily, heavily crippled.

That's the last I'll reply about it, but yeah, I just wanted to clarify that again.

P.S. Btw the bar of soap never worked for me. It says that it only works on first path completion, so maybe thats why.
Yeah, we're gonna rework that, actually, kind of makes it somewhat useless, haha.

Thanks a lot! It's really interesting how like 90% of people seem to love Vie's voice, and 10% just absolutely loathe it, there isn't really any in-between :p

It might be interesting to know (or it might ruin it for you) that Talia and Vie's voice actor is actually the same VA; SilkyMilk also does the voices for a number of the databanks in the level, too.

Speaking of voice acting trivia, the sex machine with the Electric Boss has over 100+ unique moans, orgasms, and reaction noises to initial insertions etc. from Talia's VA to accommodate for every possible combination of devices that are stimulating her at any given time.

The actual "pool" of moan/orgasm sounds in the game is fairly high, with two "default" pools existing for animations where she's got her mouth open or where her mouth is closed (blowjob, for instance), as well as special pools for special animations (like the vibrator animations on three of the Electric Level enemies).
I actually noticed Talia and Vie being the same VA (the acent slipped on one line) but I didn't know it was, now I do =D

It's so rare to see any effort put into sound design but you're team has put a lot of energy into it and it shows =D

Edit: Forgot to ask. Are they any plans to expand the Gallery to include game over moments from bosses or scenes slimier to when Talia and Faye get captured?

Yes he already said that in the full game, the gallery will feature all these scenes, including the one you (and I) mentioned, which is pretty awesome.

Yep, the gallery will have practically everything, cutscenes, databanks, game over scenes, regular animations, you name it, as well as where you first got it, what variants of the scene you've gotten and what ones you haven't, and so on :D

Also, here's this awesome (and hilarious) review that Shady Corner did of the game!

The Ice Level is on the Patreon, and the Fire Level isn't currently many places online (and we don't have the standalone executable either) for the most part because the engine it was done on is now outdated and was done by our old programmer, but the updated version (when we update it once we've completed the other levels) will be in the full game, of course.

The button at the start to continue playing is Z, not 2 :p I understand how they can look similar though in that font, sorry!

The game when fully released will be out on Nutaku, Steam, Itch.io, Fakku, Denpasoft, JAST, MangaGamer, DLSite, Plexstorm, and of course, Patreon, so you'll be able to get it just about anywhere!

Don't feel bad, we actually worried about this happening when we went with this font; we're surprised it hasn't happened more, to be honest!

We'll likely change the Z for the intros to be a much more obvious one in later builds :D

Where can i play the previous levels/demos for the first 2 worlds?
We've never made the Ice Level public, so you'd need to be a patron to get those demos (or pirate it haha), and the Fire Level was done on an old engine which we no longer use, so we've removed it from most places by replacing it with the Electric Level demo, but we'll have a Fire Level demo for the full game release!

As someone's who is interested in that side of the industry, how did you meet the rest of your team? If that's something you're okay with answering. Not looking for anything too personal, but things like: Were they already in the industry, did you find them exploring the web, recommendations. Etc.

Triangulate actually was someone I asked to join up with me for a game at the start of 2014, saw his work originally posted on ULMF, but he wasn't up for doing games then; come very late 2014 though, he was interested in teaming up with me, and so that's how Future Fragments got started, and a month later in Jan. 2015 we started the Patreon up.

Frouge was actually a complete miracle chance; after we had to replace our previous programmer due to various issues, I had searched practically everywhere for a new programmer able to take on a game this complex and I finally just tried 4chan, at which point Frouge sent me an email on an email account that was, to say the least, as trolly sounding as it gets.

I still wanted to let him take a shot at it though, so I told him to go ahead; 2 days later, he'd gotten the engine's performance from 60-ish FPS to 500 FPS plus, fixed practically all the bugs, added in a few extra systems I'd mentioned in passing, you get the idea, so he was definitely on board the moment I saw all that.

For our SFX guy (Lewd K.), I found him on the EroDev Discord that I made/manage, and for our musician, Fuyarinpa, he was originally someone who applied to be the musician for Reclaim Reality, but he quickly became my de facto music guy for all my games. Almost all the voice actors were found on EroDev also, etc.

In all cases, none of the aforementioned people were doing NSFW work prior to working with me except for Triangulate, who had done a few hentai animations (which is how I found out about him), and a few of the voice actors.

Also, here's Talia's character sheet; we encourage fanart of the characters!
