While I don't think that what they are doing is right, I have to say that some of those images suck.
Probably early creations, like the Lin and Kali ones.
The level of blush or makeup, just destroys the looks.
Well, that just makes it even worse right? I mean there is something like copyright and then there is making it insulting by making a crappy job out of it.

Sorry, just channeling my inner Galmar for a bit. Really like that guy. Besides, there is still a difference between getting a game for free and using assets from other people's work to make money off it.
Uh, do you know what an "asset" is? Those are Sims mods, if you wanted to use the HH models, you'd have to put them through a couple of stages of process to make them work in the Sims (I guess you could then fight about 'derivative work', but w/e). There's basically a 0% chance that those things are anything other than characters modeled after HH characters.

It's been 11 months without an update. Is the game going to continue?
Yes and no. A new update will most likely be out before the end of the summer, but this past year has been something of a stress test by the dev, to see what his Patrons will tolerate (he's basically stalled for 9 out of the 11 months, and only lost about 20% of his paid subs, so they'll tolerate quite a bit).

Following that, I expect his dev cycle will speed up, but he won't go back to 3 or even 2 updates a year, since he got away with it, it will likely become the new normal for him to release one update per calendar year.

PS; Don't worry about the people being rude to you in this thread. That bunch... well, they're a bunch of individuals, if you know what I mean :KEK:

If someone else uses created characters or at least names and looks of created characters of this game, but made in another engine like the game engine for the sims and then ask money for it, what would be the right way to deal with something like that?
Jokes aside, I don't think there's anything to be done. Harem Hotel is not a copyrighted work (yet?) and besides, what you described would probably fall under derivative work in most countries.
That's not quite true. It really depends on what country, origins of the work, etc. i.e. this is the kind of nuance that warrants asking a copyright lawyer.

There's a few things here:
1) Is the work copyrighted?
2) Can you make money off of it?
3) Is it enforceable?

Here's from my limited knowledge of the US's copyright system.
1) Is the work copyrighted?
First off, a copyright is just as the name says. The "right" to "copy". Even if not officially copyrighted, by US standards, any unique work is the intellectual property of the creator. As such, copyright rules can apply. A good example would be if someone was to post an original story online. Even if a famous author were to come along and uses the character, names and plot, the original author has grounds to sue and demand compensation. (Provided the system works as the law describes, of course.) As far as I know, most countries that adhere that respect international copyrights will adhere to this standard to some capacity. Again, please refer to a copyright lawyer for final say as I am not one. So, the answer is, creative works doesn't have to be registered to enjoy some copyrights. But, of course, rules and restrictions may apply. IP law is pretty messy. -_- The one big exception to this is if the IP owner declares the IP to be creative commons and/or public domain. In which, it's fair game.

2) Can you make money off of it?
Yes and no. If you were to claim the works as your own, then no. US law treats it as a kind of fraud because you're selling/trading on someone else's property, possibly fooling the consumer into thinking that you and/or your products are the same as the original creator and their product. However, commissioning/asking someone to make a copy of something for yourself is a little different. Since the person that's asking for X to be made knows that the creator for X isn't the IP owner, there's no fraud involved. This is why there are patreons for people creating parody porn stuff. Though this has been both challenged and allowed in the past. Again, rules and restrictions may apply. Ask a copyrights lawyer.

3) Is it enforceable?
This is less about copyright law and more about international politics. Depends on what country and the owner of the copyright resides. For example, if you're in the US and the IP owner is in North Korea, what's the IP owner going to do? I'm Taiwanese. We use to have a lot, and I mean, A LOT of pirated software, CDs, DVD's, games, etc. But between international trade agreements and deals that happened in the last 2+ decades, a lot of that is clamped down and a fair amount is enforced. But if one country doesn't care and the other country can't get it to take action, what are they gonna do? I mean, look at all the IP theft happening in China.

All in all, a simple solution is to just ask the original owner if it's okay before doing it. Just having that okay makes navigating all this a lot easier.

You are probably right about that, and i won't deny that. But honestly in some cases even the name of characters might be considered an asset. I don't know if that is the case with this situation and i wonder if you or someone else knows.
But that is besides the point.

I am not a game developer myself, but if i made a game and someone else uses anything from my game (and i mean literally anything) and then makes money with it then i would want to know about it.

Honestly speaking i make mods for skyrim and to me it is just a hobby, so no donation points or money involved at all, and the permissions for my mod are about as loose as Uranus after captain cock had his way with it but if anyone would go so low as to use them to get paid for it then i myself would want to know so i can see what my options are.

I think Cornwall is half elvish.
That has been brought up a few times, and while this would be an interesting twist, if that were the case, it would make more sense that he put in laws freeing half elves, rather than making them less free/protected than full elves.

It could be like our politics, where people attack others of what they do in secret, thinking everyone else must be doing it too, but he isn't really doing that. He is not accusing anyone, he is just making his own life harder if he is found out (assuming that were true). It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but then hate and politics rarely do.
