Curious about an issue I'm experiencing -

Whenever I have a high poly body selected (one of PrettyJacked's bodies for example) and try to import an overlay, browsing through the file explorer is extremely sluggish - opening up different folders, scrolling through files, etc... takes forever. If I swap to a normal body, the issue goes away. Nothing of note in the console output.

Anybody else experience this or know why it might be happening? I can technically work around it by importing all of my overlays with a normal body and then swapping to a high poly body afterwards, but I'd like to address the problem if possible.

may I suggest turning off watch for overlay changes? the texture is already using a ton of memory, alt-tabing to renew refresh select and dive back in uses a ton more.

I want to say overlay creators probably have only have very few sideloader mods active, maybe 10 cards / models and a few co-ordinate cards they work with and maybe less then 5 overlays they have available in the directory.

If you knew how Unity handles filehandles and assets to be loaded you would be shocked.

The less assets, less items the faster, fluid, smoother and less demanding on your system it will be...

I wish there was a way to optimize it further and be more granular. aka I have 3 females and myself in a scene. what are the bare miniums and required mods for all the characters and objects in the scene itself aka (give me a list of what is currently accessed and used so I can move the other remaining sideloaders, mods and object out side of being identified. aka even inactive mods and sideloaded things have active pointers in memory. "that's on us" type problem.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post but if this is an issue of too many assets being loaded and tracked globally, why does it only occur when specific bodies are selected in the character creator? Just to be clear, I'm referring to the selection in Body > Body Shape > Overall > Uncensor Selector Body.

To reiterate - the file explorer issue when browsing overlays only occurs when certain HP bodies are selected. It does not occur when any other type of body is selected. If it were related to the amount of assets that need to be refreshed when the game tabs out irrespective of what's actually "in use", wouldn't we expect it to occur across the board?

I did try disabling 'Watch for Overlay Changes', it had no effect.

HP bodies
majority of my cards are under 3 megs.. I have a few high end ones with many overlays and High Poly.. Yeah.. They take a long time to load. I had to bury some of the high poly cards 2 to 3 directories deep so they wouldn't stagger the system.

seriously, it's the only way my laptop can... cope. I bury the extra co-ord, overlay and character cards a few layers deeper. if they were just one layer deep it would choke. When I mentioned one performance tip.. I didn't mean that was the only performance thing you should do. BTW Have you modified your NVidia settings?

Sorry, either I'm dumb or I'm just not explaining the problem correctly, so I recorded a video to eliminate any ambiguity -

I don't understand what cards have to do with this. I don't have issues loading cards - I have quite a few large character cards with high poly assets and multiple heavy body overlays and material edits... they load quickly with no issues. It feels like we're talking about two different things so hopefully the video helps.

Thanks.

edit:

no, no custom nvidia settings.

Hello

I can't play the game.

I download the HoneySelect 2 DX BetterRepack R4.0.1
Extract it with some error even if i disable my windows defender still the same error after extraction

Run the game as an admin the game launch
Then i see the game title i'm in front of a bar in a pool and version 1.2.3 on the right top
I can move the camera around if i activate the DHH but can't do anything else

After multiple try (changing setting using the uploader) didn't change anything
Should i download it with out the update or their is a fix ?

Well...crap. I don't know if that's going to be a good thing or a bad thing, I fully expect something to be screwed up or taken out if Illusion ends up doing it. Strange thought I know, just have a sinking feeling.
You tell me, fakku did a horrible job with HS1 but at the very least had studio with their game, but illusion tends to not offer studio for the west, leaving it for me and Marco to help users integrate the JP studio into the steam version. Plusses and minuses...

Actually, I'm even more confused. I watched it three times and all I saw was a little stutter on the girl when you changed the body setting. I didn't see any real nasty slowdown on the Explorer windows that popped up.

Do the optional sideloader pack affect the main game? (not the studios)
Not really, maybe some hair pieces that are applied as accessories, but nothing of any real consequence goes into the main game from the Sideloader Modpack. If you don't use the studio, feel free to ignore it and save the space, or free it up if you downloaded by torrent since the torrent includes it.

The Explorer windows on the 1st and 3rd pass were quick and snappy - the Explorer window rendered quickly, navigation between folders was instant, scrolling through files was fully responsive, thumbnails rendered instantly, etc.

However, if you look closely at the 2nd pass you should be able to see the initial lengthy white screen as the Explorer window tries to load, lengthy tooltip ghosting, sluggish thumbnail rendering, buttons grayed out as they are pressed with heavily delayed UI responsiveness... scroll wheel inputs don't even buffer correctly so I had to click the side scrollbar buttons to navigate, and that's visibly sluggish in the video.

Both versions are reproducible on demand.

If you find any mods touching upon the main game in the studio modpack, do tell me. I try to keep only things that ONLY affects studio in the studio folder so that people that don't use studio don't need to feel like they need that to get a full main game experience, so optimally there should be nothing in there a strictly main game player should need

I see it now. It looks a lot like a RAM issue, as in not enough RAM available to render all that as it normally would because of the game, which is kind of odd. You would think that, because it was opened as part of the game process, that it would use some of the RAM allocated to the game for opening that even though it is a Windows element it is using to load overlays and such. This is just a theory, but it could be that the higher poly body is taking up more RAM than the system is able to cope with and still render the load window smoothly. It still has enough to not crash anything, just not enough to run smoothly. This would make sense because higher poly assets take more RAM in a RAM heavy game like all of Illusion's games. This is a common issue when using the Force High Poly mod in Koikatsu, except it lags when walking around the school in that case, which is why I'm tinking it might be the assets for these bodies are just that RAM heavy.

That's why I said maybe. I keep getting conflicting reports that it does or it does not affect the main game nearly every time I answer the question of what the Sideloader Modpack does. When I say it has only studio stuff, I get told that there are a few things that were moved to it from the game for size reasons, but when I say it does have game stuff, then I get told it does not. Seeing you are the maker of the repack, and since I have never personally seen any added things in the accessories or anywhere else when using the Sideloader Modpack, I'm going to start saying it has no effect on the main game again.

I have never moved anything to the studio modpack for 'size reasons'... so that shouldn't be the case... If I have, that has been in error and will be corrected as soon as I notice or get that reported... if it's too bad, I'll just split the mod and create migration data

Noted, I'll make sure not to make that mistake again.

That was my initial thought until I noticed that the explorer window spawned by the game was the only Windows element that actually lags. I can open other explorer windows through normal means while I have the laggy HS2-sourced window up, and the other windows are smooth. Other applications I have running aren't impacted either, and neither is actual HS2 gameplay with high poly models.

This is why I'm confused - if it's a system resource issue, why is the explorer window spawned by HS2 the only thing affected? And if it's otherwise an issue with insufficient resources allocated specifically to the game process, why do I not experience any slowdowns while actually playing the game with high poly assets being rendered on screen?

Anyway, I'm just applying overlays on normal bodies now and swapping to HP bodies after the fact - it's a functional workaround so I'm probably not gonna spend too much more time on this.

Thanks for the reply.

1.) I suggest reading the optimization guide. if it didn't work. I would not have posted it.

2.) Yes, I watched your workflow. serveral times. Did you use Roy's guide for heads? or something? I'm not expert.. but I didn't see you didn't export head / "Get Face Overlay Template." I understand you can use it on a case by case basis? Honestly, after having a nice overlay I'd modify the face bones/geomentry save the character and also "Export current texture".

I have more success having an existing card with good overlay and perfoming fusions; gen 1, gen 2, gen 3 to ensure the overlay sticks.. otherwise, do it the Roy12 way but it will become incompatible with all your other cards. if the "load new texture" doesn't work. it means that texture won't fit or won't stick or something needs to be fixed. Fix, would be either change the face.. or Get Face Overlay Template and apply overlay to that new template externally. *shrug* I don't know.. I know it's not a bug.. if you figure it out.. post it to tutorials. good luck.

Usually if the game malfunctions to the point its unplayable It could be because it wasn't unzip properly. Using WinRAR is not good idea use 7Zip. WinRAR does something that screws the game up.
