Afaik. and have read, Valeria is Nyx alter ego, that could mean a lot of things, I'm shure that more of the LI have (like in all VNS) perks and personality traits of the author.
btw, it's not "alter-ego" or "self-insert", it's "author surrogate", that's what Val is (allegedly)...

carry on...

Is there a difference?
Yes... there are plenty of different terms that people wrongly use interchangeably for that sort of thing...

An alter-ego is an alternate identity, most commonly used by actual spies/agents and artists too (like Kindra and DJ Kink in Artemis), but to explain it simply, just think about it this way: Clark Kent is Superman's alter-ego (and also his secret identity, but a secret identity is not always an alter-ego).

A self-insert is when an artist literally put themselves in their work, so like an artist painting themselves in the background of their painting, or a director appearing in a shot in their own movie as themselves, for example.

An author-surrogate is a fictional character that is somewhat based on the author, they're usually used as a vehicle to convey or express the author's opinions or experiences in their work without self-inserting... it's very common for authors to use these, and it's very likely many MCs in AVNs are author-surrogates.

From what I read some time ago, Val is just a character that shares some of Nyx's behaviors and maybe experiences, but she's not supposed to represent Nyx directly, because Val is fictional... I doubt Nyx is a young latino girl... but like I said, "allegedly" because I've never seen a direct quote from Nyx talking about it.

this game has a really good story but the scenes in the game suck ass ngl i played it 8 hours straight on the weekend and couldnt nut once they are bland as fuck and the mc cant keep a bitch to save his life and it has winks of a possible harem with some of the girls with nothing actually going forward to a harem and it winks at possible incest and if i am being honest i would love to have the mc fuck his mom in the story and if i miss spell the name sorry Errena his childhood crush John is her dad and she doesnt even know it neither does the mc but he is putting the dots together because Iris looks like his childhood crush a lot and while i am on the topic of his childhood crush that bitch sucks fucking ass no scenes with her that are worth mentioning the shower scene fucking ass her not allowing him to watch her take her fucking panties off that is some gay ass shit she loves him yet did nothing back in the day to help him out and im talking about the 5 year ago flash backs where 12 year old mc said to himself you know what i really love her so im going to go into my house take this flower out the vase and give it to the girl i love Alexis was the only good person that day going over to him trying to comfort him his childhood crush should of ran over to him and told him her feelings instead she is still stringing him along for what nothing fuck that bitch
Sounds like you need to play untwined instead of intertwined.

I don’t particularly care for the sex scenes in this game either, but not every AVN needs to be a porn vehicle. This is more of a slice-of-life with some sex scenes sprinkled on top. And I’m here for it.

Fair enough! I suppose I am guilty of using the terms lazily as well, although more as conversational shorthand than any conscious belief that they mean exactly the same thing. But I do understand the distinctions you're making, and it's never bad to encourage people to speak precisely. That's why we have all these different words to begin with, after all.

I'm too lazy to look for a link before my morning coffee, but I believe it was one of Nyx's AMAs where she talked about the similarities between herself and the Valeria character.

I just hope that Nyx adds Valeria as an official LI soon. She is probably my second favourite LI in this, so it would be a shame if we didn't get an ending with her.
