Maybe you’re playing on normal start or custom start with ignore story disabled? In 2.3 added skill decay, and the skills that are tied to character’s backstory will not decay, but the others will.
Why add skill decay to skills which are extremely difficult to level and have no EXP bar? Seems like a method of needlessly frustrating players.

Honestly? I don’t know. I too think it’s extremely questionable change.

Ingvar77 But you can disable skill decay by
In console, type @slaver_stats_decay = 0
As far as I remember, the console isn’t deleted from the release version.

I suppose to add a degree of realism. I could speak Latin in school, now? couldn't tell you the first thing about it. My point being, if you don't use skills or practice those skills they do tend to become less refined. I'm not condoning or condeming the change, just trying to offer a potential explanation.

Realism is not always a good solution. And it’s very weird, yesterday you were a good mage and today you’re already a shitty one.

Yesterday you were barely qualified to be called a good mage, today you lack just that one push to be.
The Problem with these Letter based skill systems is it's really hard to explain this... the bar or maybe a percentage based indicator would tell you far better how this would work

Just because you could barely qualified to be called a good mage doesn’t mean you’re a good mage. Just because you have $1.99 doesn’t mean you have $2. Basically, I understand what you’re saying, but personally, it’s weird to me when you could cast Domini Dictum without any problems yesterday, but today you can’t.

I think skill decay is unnecessary, or at least such an implementation of it as here. At the very least could make the rate of skill decay exponentially or logarithmically. Where the skill decay was zero at the beginning of no practice, and then gradually increased. Such a solution, imho, would be more realistic than a constant skill decay.

It’s not meant to simulate lack of practice, otherwise everything would decay. It’s meant to require a higher level of effort to raise and maintain non-aligned skills above the soft cap, and to regress those non-aligned skills back to the soft cap if not maintained.

Overall the intention of this feature which is only mandatory for story mode is to make the background choice more impactful. The story mode characters are not meant to become masters of all.

It is not exponential because that would be impossible to overcome. If you really want Maestro the Archmage you can have him, but it will not be easy.

Hi, i have 2 questions/problems:

1. I`ve defeated the ogre while patrolling the fog but it didn`t drop the Dragon Fire Staff Relic. Any ideas why? In the wiki it only says that "Defeating the Ogre for the first time will grant you the Dragon Fire Staff Relic but the slave that you were meant to have caught will run away. Well worth it.". I did not defeat all the other opponents that i could encounter in the fog, some of those i just let be.

2. That friggin` magic skill is my death. I manage to bring it up to purple lvl (without the wizard robes equipped) and then suddenly after a couple of days it drops back to pink lvl. Is there something that drains magic? I`m not failing any spells, i only do Auspex, and Magna Magnifica. The aura of the slave is too strong for me to cast Sententia Veritas (that is, when i manage to reach purple magic and i am able to cast it). I also train the alchemy+witchcraft of the slave. I`m at day 675 btw, i think i`ve casted quite enough untill now, also quite a few slaves trained up to purple in alchemy/witchcraft so far. I`ve also unequiped the Raven Crown thinking it might interfere somehow with low level magic. I have the other 3 aura enhancing artefacts equipped. So why is my magic exp dissapearing? What am i doing wrong? It`s EXTREMELY frustrating and also expencive to do this Sissif work...

Literally a line above is a discussion of this. In a couple of words: there’s a new feature in 2.3 — skill decay. Skills not aligned to the slaver’s backstory will drop. You can disable it by typing command in console @slaver_stats_decay = 0

To get the Dragon Fire Staff you must defeat the ogre, the warg, the werewolf, the huge fiend, the vampire and the lich. Also your magic, strength and domination should be S+.

Does anyone have another link to the dev version? It takes me 10 hours to download from either of those 2 links in the dev thread

Did you check the slave’s charm before auction? Anatomy tab. Participation is random each decade. If the slave does not have a specialization that anyone wants and doesn’t have charm + high enough rating, no one will bid.
She did have a specialisation, base charm was pretty low but this should be somewhat offset by clothes, at least it used to work this way. I bought her the best clothes to up her charm, exotism just to see what would happen, no luck what so ever. I tried this over multiple auctions by the way, maybe i got unlucky?
