I have some ideas I want to try out when I am home next week.
According to this, you can import the json as part of the same skeleton. If this is true, you could fix the draw order issue from 2 different skeletons. But idk how it will handle the animations.
I really, REALLY want o rebuild this.
And seeing such an easy access to the animations like this shows a great opportunity to start a Lok:Re Continued. But I need to convince my team as well. Doing this alone with my current time restrictions would take an unreasonable amount of time.
I think you'd have a lot of supporters for this project. It's been like 3-4 years and people still come back to this game. Probably need permission from Kuja and Abelius to do so, but hopefully this game is revived one day. Based on the last update post made by Abelius on this project, it seemed like there was still some life to it.

If somehow this game gets revived, it'd need a new artist with almost the same style.

You know, I still have phantom pains about this game.
I found this project when Abelius's family drama was starting and there were big spaces between releases, yet still I fell in love with the project. Joined their discord, hanged with Kuja on art streams, we all talked about the future plans and what was about to come. I was insanely hyped for the wolf girl while others were waiting for monkey event.
And then everything went down to hell.
I'm still very salty and sad that such a project ended with where it ended, there was so much potential to it...
I still sit here reading through peoples' positive feedback, wishing that one day there will be a team found that would announce they started a project that would inherit LoK 0.8's spirit. Hell, were I to have someone like Abelius, I would start doing one myself with such a person!
As an artist I would've gladly worked on a LoK game!
Though I think that using Kuja's assets to rebuild the project is a wrong way to go in its core. Yes, Kuja's style in 0.8 is still the best to me, but Kuja owns the rights to it and due to the entire drama behind the project there's no way they would allow their work to be reused.
For such a project to work it should be rebuilt from 0 art-wise in order for all the rights to be safe and sound if one wishes such a project to be legit and supportable.
I started work on a renpy proof of concept to make an asset viewer. It seems to work fine so far. I am going to spend some time wrapping the assets in a tiny narrative. Not really a "game", and definitely not anything more than a personal project that I will share (if I get to a point where I think it is worth sharing).
But if people like it, I might upload it to GitHub for others to add to it.
Also: don't anyone get your hopes up. This is LoK we are talking about and anything is possible lol. I would hate to get your hopes up only for me to get bored and stop.

If this does get remade, I'm hoping Kuja doesn't care about using his old art assets and that it's a continuation. According to the last update posts, they were going to start a slavery quest and introduce the caves.

It's hard to not fall in love with such characters.
This game is real work of passion.
Guess dev understood what a devastating thing he/she creating and stop in time, ha ha.
Legendary project as it is, including all previous versions
We also have PR which will engage with the community on F95 and the original LOK Forums (Our PR team is insane and just want blood, be advised).(Fucking pussy, not willing to talk on the forums)
Certainly hope we get some good shit outta this, as I was really looking forward to the customization parts of the game, and more "fun" times with Cenvir and general corruption.
All the good lucks to ya, and if you get a Subscribestar or Patreon up for it, I'll be interested in supporting if your previews show promise
I hope your team understands that you will be working on a game where:
1. Krystal character belongs to Nintendo, company will have a 100% right to shut you down or make you go to court if they ever find out you working on the project. This was the reason why new LoK tries into customisation in order to make sure that Krystal is not Krystal but rather their "DeviantArt OC, don't steal" type.
2. You will be using somebody else's work - story, writing, characters, art e.t.c. You would need to ask Abelius's and Kuja's blessings to work with their stuff, otherwise this would be stealing. Naturally even if they allow to use their work in order to continue, you might end up creating a product that could be creating competition on a limited niche market and when it comes to that even if they were ok with you working on their stuff at first, down the line they could demand you to stop further development because they changed their minds or something.
Basically you will be putting your heads under a double guillotine, praying that none of the blades falls down.
If you have a team that is open to work on such a project and you have programmers and artists why won't you just recreate the project with your own assets to make it 100% legit to start with, while making all of it extremely close to LoK0.8?
Yes, it will take longer, but this would be your game that you wouldn't have to be laying under the knife entire way.
