Maybe I'll be back to talk in depth about the update, but for now I'd just like to comment a bit on a problem I've been having:

I'm not saying this kills the story, it's not like I'm rolling my eyes at the screen... but this specific part of the plot is also not doing it for me. I can't get really invested with a "problem" that isn't a problem at all from the lack of any actual possible consequences.

Maki will be away for a while, and that's really all that could have possibly happened. Does anyone care? Akira clearly doesn't and neither do I.
I think what you’re describing *is* the point of that scene – or, well, maybe not the entire point, but definitely a significant part of it – because LiL has always been about this strange mix of extremely realistic scenarios juxtaposed against extremely unrealistic ones (which is a separate topic that I’m currently writing an entire mega-essay about, but that’ll have to wait for at least a week), and the underlying “meaninglessness” of it all is something that is always looming in the background, casting its shadow onto how everything else in the game is perceived.

The main problem we all point to is : why should we care about something that we know would lead to nothing?
Whatever how well it's written, if it's meaningless, people tend to get frustrated. Or, at least, get a fatigue (one I have right now, by the way).

Damn, I'm even reduced to find joy beneath the naming aspect :

Anyhow, I'm curious about that essay.

But it wouldn't be victimless because, again, she would be roping her unwitting daughter into it in a very visible, public and easily discoverable way - which would also totally rob her of the moral high ground and put her reputation/business at risk.
No one said Maki is smart! I'd honestly find her not considering consequences about something like that, especially a decision she made before her husband died, to be completely in character.

She didn't start trying to be smart, or a parent, until after her husband died.

The real wish was the friends we made along the way.
That said, I believe it's due to the format of it. Someone said that the peculiarities of this chapter make it so that, for some people, it's better to read it in big chunks instead of by update. Since, because it's an entire chapter of status quo, you appreciate it more with big chunks of reading instead of just piecemeal as before.

ALSO, I haven't seen anyone mention it yet...but it's obviously Maki in the video, right? Older series that preyed on younger girls(who in turn lie about their age to perform). Exact clone of Makoto? Always performing with multiple guys?

The problem isn't really the status quo, it's the lack of consequences that follow the scene that was written to be impactful, but wasn't.
Because, whatever what Maki's doing, I know that it'll lead to nothing. And I know that she gonna accept the situation. Just like Sara. Same for Rika, Imani, etc... everyone gonna accept it.
So why treat that moment with Maki as something big? As something with some consequences?

About your take in reading in big chunk instead of on a monthly basis... maybe you're right... but I don't think it'll make me less bitter. I mean, I said that in my long post, about the Osako refusal : «The result is the same. Wakana is bisexual, so she'll join the harem. And Osako was an obstacle, so Selebus get rid of her.»

I just see Selebus trying to figure how to make the Harem happen with these characters he made.
And I don't think seeing the Himawari revelation 3 days before, or the stomachache a month earlier, had change a thing. The result is the same : the checklist must be finish before chapter 5.

I mean, it *will* lead to something (or at least I sure hope so) – just not right now.

I need to do a replay as well, there is probably more in that conversation, and previous ones, that imply it's her. I definitely felt like she was going to reveal it the entire time and was surprised she didn't.

Either way, thanks for the helpful evidence!

Are you saving on every screen? What does this accomplish?! "Ah yes, page 1529 save slot 6 is an excellent spot to pick back up from"
Hahah, i know i know. Is because i want to have the whole game in the saves like a gallery or a powerpoint. Is stupid, but i´m a man on a mision. Right know i´m in page 1192 cause i hit 9 and i´m coming back to page 1892.

I am with you. For me, Maki's decision in this update isn't exactly something out of the blue; her reluctance, self-doubt, inabilities, guilt, etc. Collectively it makes just enough sense so that Akira lives to see another day. But, like you said, all those could've been articulated much, much better by doing this from Maki's POV. Giving her just one more event full of her monologues to indicate just how many struggles she has in her would be great.
(would love a scene where she goes back to the shop and continues to cry her eyes out, while vandalizing all the dildos in the shop in a fit of helplessness and self-hate)

And I ask for that not only because I would otherwise not be able to fully comprehend Maki's decision/indecision. Since Selly isn't doing these revelations only by the end of harem phase, every supposed penultimate almost all gets forcibly turned into mere "now what?". Situations that should absolutely make a character inaccessible forever at the bare minimum quickly shrink into temporary hiccups. With this setup, I humbly ask for just a few additional Maki scenes with just her and her internal torment after talking to Akira so that I can at least get some kind of peace of mind, knowing how zero-effort Akira dodged yet another bullet but actually only just barely. It's always by some unfortunate miracle, and not always by Selly's 4th wall-breaking mercy that thinks it's still too early for shit to hit the fan full throttle.

With that being said, however, I hope this pattern does not repeat when it is Imani's turn because 1) this gets old very quickly, and 2) there is no way Imani would let same miracle happen.
