Progressing with Charlie is locked behind your appearance, by the way. You can't visit her with less than 4 appearance, though you can raise it temporarily by taking a shower ahead of time. Watch a lot of porn (you need to watch incest porn anyway) and keep the topics for use on her and whenever you have spare money buy romance books on your computer.

okay i'll try that! another problem is talking to becky as she's now the popular sister. theres no interaction with her when she's home
You can only meet with Becky like once a day for most of the game and only change her AT once a week later on. Fortunately the patterns aren't that complicated and it's just weekdays and weekends you need to keep track of rather than a different schedule every day.

Baal doesn't do much animation.
But, you'll be happy to hear, the next update does have an animated scene in her 2nd new AT.
In fact, if memory serves, that scene is the one that has the animation in it

It is still very grindy and it will take many many hours of gameplay to get to the good stuff, but that is the style of game the developer likes to make. I don't see that changing any time soon. There have been some QOL improvements though, and there have been skills added that allow for more efficient grinding.
There is a good amount of content now, so there is definitely a reward for you at the end of it.
The dev has stated that the non-family members will not require as much time/grind to advance their content. So if you took the approach of going through their content first to level up skills, going through the family member content after that should not be as bad.
I am personally hoping for someone to make a mod that increases exp gain rates before my next playthrough, but I am not holding my breath or anything.

Apart from Charlie, though, all the non family members are gated behind later family ATs. Sally, Tilley etc take a lot of AT changes with Becky to unlock. And isn't Jesse functionally locked behind some of the most recent family ATs as well because of what topics you need to use with her?
Yes, but that is because he made the family first, there will be other characters like Stacey for example (Gym Owner) that do not have there first AT yet. And which are unlocking independently of progress with the family.

I would hardly consider them counterexamples when you can't even interact with them. Who knows when they'll actually have significant content? And they might be like Jesse and basically require you to advance family ATs anyway.
