I see why you don't like the outcome and would have preferred a different one, however, roleplay is a bit like a wrestling match. Some like to plan every move, some prefer to set a few "checkpoints" if you will and maybe get some possible problems out of the way beforehand, some will go in just knowing that Big Boy has to win after around 15 minutes by some illegal move not seen by the ref. And then one of them may do stuff the other wouldn't have preferred but they'll go along with the story. Of course, shoot happens (bad pun very much intended, sorry about that), but unlike in wrestling, in roleplay you have a safe word.
