It's probably best if you see a bigger picture than just this game. What PGJ has been arguing, not just in this thread, but in many across the site, is the trope is being beaten into the ground. While it's true this game pre-dates many of others with the same themes, it nevertheless must be recognized that 95% of all these games are terribly written with little to no depth. Most of it boils down to laziness followed closely by a lack of talent. Person X wants to make a buck or two, teaches themselves how to make a render or two, slaps a few regurgitated words they've read or heard elsewhere around a plot that they've seen a dozen times already and poof, they're rich. Except, they're not--they fail.
And what's worse, by far, than the lack of talent and passion in creating something truly unique is the acceptance of this sorry state by the masses. Although, once pondered upon, given the ages and life experiences of the average 'player' on this site I suspect I am expecting too much.
