However, that is not how the ratings work. All issues about ratings (braindead 5 star reviews for a tech demo because it just might become a game some day, people rating games 1 star for including NTR when clearly the name "Cuckold King" and the tag should have given a hint, ratings not being updated by the raters when the game moves on and dramatically changes quality which happens a lot in both directions) aside: there is ONE rating for overall quality of the game. Some people (thankfully) point out in their reviews what they think of different aspects (though usually not kink related, more graphics, gameplay, story as in "common" video games) but the final rating is overall. Similar to "likes". MwM isn't #82 of games concerning incest but #82 overall of games which happen to have incest. This way of filtering will never work, even with an added tag for "deep incest", the rankings will still be overall. When I filter by `incest` tag and sort by `RATING` or `LIKES`, I would like the top results to have a good/kinky/pervy/in-depth/central incest theme and NOT just some connection to incest that's randomly strong/weak. In the aforementioned list, Mystwood Manor appears #219 by `RATING` and #82 by `LIKES` out of 1972 games. It absolutely doesn't qualify for those very high spots on the `incest` games list.
It strongly seems like incest was setup to appear central in the beginning to avoid losing MotH audience but then the kink was rapidly and dramatically dropped to a very marginal spot, comparable in importance to anal sex. This comparison is actually very relevant for the problem I'm trying to underline. Anal sex is barely present in Mystwood Manor and it's about as vanilla as it gets. Despite this the game appears in the top 10% when doing the same list as before except filtered by the `anal sex` tag. It's the same exact problem as with incest except in this case it's more tolerable because far fewer people look for porn games centered on anal sex vs those who look for games centered on incest (heck, incest games were critically important in floating F95 out of anonymity AFAIK).
The question of tags being more specific, e. g. divided between "happens in the game one or two times" and "major theme of the game" or "happens to somebody" vs "happens to MC" or "central part" vs "optional part" (I think your suggestion would go well with the first approach), has been raised repeatedly and I would all be for it in general, however there are practical problems as well. But, as I said, rumor has it they are working on the system in general. No idea in what direction though.
The second part is certainly true. However I doubt that voting on tags would work reliably at all. Given the quality of the majority of the ratings, the ubiquity of haters and fanboys in threads, and completely different opinions of what makes incest "real incest" (I think we wouldn't be too far apart regarding the last question but others certainly differ) I would guess that would lead to a randomizer. Probably correlated with overall game quality because I doubt that most would really differentiate between "I liked this game, so its tags must be well represented". I may be wrong though.I acknowledged the difficulty from the very beginning which is why I think voting is a reasonably good approach for the new tag. I don't want to see the existing `incest` tag changed. At the very least it would be useful to people wanting to exclude from their searches games that have so much as a hint of incest.
Maybe `incest centric` would be a better name for the new tag. It seems like it would be easier to answer the question `Does the game revolve around incest as a central theme`? The answer would be a clear `No` for Mystwood Manor when the question is not answered pedantically.
However, this is getting quite OT for this thread, maybe we better can the discussion here.
