It's completely implausible, honestly. No engine offered in the 1969 Charger had a timing belt. No engine Mopar even MADE in 1969 had a timing belt. The current gen Hemis are all chain driven as well. My 4.7 in my Jeep from 1999 has a chain. I could be wrong- as I often am- but as far as I know the only engines produced by Chrysler with a timing belt are/were I4 and V6 configurations. As recently as 2007, the Dodge Charger R/T had timing belts. The one the MC is driving is considerably older than that (I would put it in the 60s or 70s). So the car having a timing belt go is not at all implausible.
Does it matter to the gameplay one tiny bit? Nope. But, he did go to the trouble of noting it's a 1969 Charger with a V8. I doubt it's a 318, so that leaves the 383, 426 Hemi, or 440. It's definitely a chain in any of those.
Being pedantic is a curse.
