I mean, it was titled Act 1, and if you read any of my devlogs you would know this.

Lots of things were set up this update, and I would have loved to get them all concluded in one update, but thats just how this development stuff works sometimes. Act 2 (Which I've gotten a lot of work done on already) has all the answers and story beats that you crave.

Regarding the Admiral Mars event; if you think it was inconsequential, you may be more daft then Cap :ROFLMAO:
Ouchies, though I did try to pre-emptively defend myself with the spoiler title (not that it's any real excuse for lack of brain function, let's be honest).

And sorry, I don't follow devlogs, so that might explain that. I tend to just wait for updates to appear on this site with a few exceptions; a one stop shop of debauchery, so to speak.

Regarding the Admiral scene, to be fair, I never implied it was inconsequential, just that it was far too short and didn't feel fleshed out enough to necessitate an in person meeting. Sure there are things to be said about exerting power/influence by making somebody meet you for something, dressing provocatively to convince/coerce, etc, but just felt like the scene just happened way too fast. I don't even remember if they finished the darn drink. Just left me wondering what the overall point of it being in person was. Maybe I did just miss the point, but just felt like she came and went and I just had the reaction of "k, well I was bored anyways and literally had nothing to do, so fun talk I guess". Maybe I just need to go over it again with a finer tooth comb, or replay the game at some point in the future, since I cannot remember any interactions with her besides receiving orders.

I may have been overly harsh as I didn't filter my words, but to be honest, I enjoy the game and the great renders, but tend to zone out on the non-sequitur sex scenes, and also tend to forget some details between updates.

Last played the game almost exactly a year ago (just a few days off coincidentally). My thoughts and ramblings for anyone interested:

My take is that it's both, really. It is story focused and character driven...but it doesn't lose sight of the fact that one of the primary reasons for it's existence is also to create hot porn. Sometimes that can be a difficult balance to walk...but I feel that by the time people are through to 0.5, they will start to understand the whole picture better.

Also, I know that the Captain/Leader archetype a lot of people would prefer is a Darrow O'Lykas (Red Rising) or a John Crichton (Farscape) or a Picard (Star Trek) but leaders come in all sorts of veins, and develop in all sorts of ways. Malcolm Reynolds and Luke Skywalker didn't start out saving the world...they were just a grunt and a moisture farmer. Give the MC a minute would be my recommendation. He might start to surprise you.

Nothing wrong with rose tinted glasses coming off, but some of the defects you then spot, might end up being strengths of the story in the end.
I’m one of those weird--- who likes to read the entire threads of certain games. I’ve even come to actually toss my two cents in occasionally. I find this thread one of the more fascinating ones. I admire those who actually attempt something creative on any level. I follow a handful of games. This is one of them. The reaction to the last update was quite entertaining. Made me think enough to comment (not that it should or could matter to anyone but me) MidnightKing # 3327, OriginalUserName #3328, TM Twisted Games #3332 and their follow-up’s I found particularly interesting both for their tone and contents. I like this game and look forward to its updates. I’m willing to overlook any ‘literary’ or ‘structural’ weaknesses I think it may have primarily due to the genre. After reading the above (which I think are text book cases on how to respectfully and convincingly put your opinion across BTW), I started to think about the ‘half empty” side of my feelings about the game.

Many have criticized the meeting with Mars. I agree with the developer. I think the scene was crucial. The issue, in my opinion, was what was left on the table. There was so much room for more that could have been expressed in the dialog with Mars, inner dialog, exposition, or both. This illustrates, for me, the main issue I have at this stage with the game. Missed opportunity. The following are further, high-level examples:

MC- I think the MC is now ‘good enough’ but still has problems with the concept of the role he is put in. (He never visited the Bot lab?) Still, he is good enough. Net: the developer may need a greater understanding of leadership or use what he knows to a greater extent.

Characterization- I love Nyx. (favorite female) I’m not yet convinced she deserves the trust the MC has of her yet. The Lym situation could be handled better as well. Feels like he is cheating with her even though he really isn’t. Developer could have his cake and eat it too by a little reworking. An?(below)

Plot and above- Last update felt like the first time the work smacked of ‘committee’ rather than a single vision. (again An). Tiger guy- Future setup? Great potential. Hope there is follow though. I don't think setup is a sin. Others seem to. Stick to your vision.

Ah, I got carried away. Having wrote a couple of scifi novels for my own kicks myself, and putting one and a couple of stories out there, I know how hard it is when others don’t think I deserve a Pulitzer… Its why I admire those that take the risk with the product of their creativity. There was nothing I treasured more than constructive criticism…

Just one man’s thoughts, inspired by others, not worth anything more than that. I hope the developer keeps up the good work! I look forward to the next Update!

Thanks for the words. If it wasn't painfully obvious by reading OO, this is the first creative thing I've ever made (born from COVID lockdown). I have many shortcomings as a writer and artist which I hope I am slowly getting better at.

Cap has been one of my biggest challenges; walking the line between greenhorn and a leader proven enough to be the rank of Captain hasn't worked out as well as I'd hope (although I do think he's coming into his own more and more).

You mention An a few times, but I don't think I really understand what the point you were trying to make with him. Mind expanding on that?

I have been working toward the Cluster visit for more than a year now, and all the puzzle pieces finally coming together has been really amazing and freeing. Act 2, which I really really wish could have been included with this release, has so many conclusions to stories and starting of new ones. I hope everyone is ready for "shit to go down." I know I am.

I think you more elegantly stated what I felt for that scene: missed opportunity. Upon revisiting it, I think I'd also add lack of agency on the part of the captain as something that bothered me. The scene itself is very short, and consists of being talked to, with no real counterplay to her comments or insightful thinking. That can be fine, sometimes people need to play their part in the moment, but even after the conversation ends, the captain doesn't dwell on it and think/strategize. He just calls up Nyx and relays the information, and Nyx does all the talking.

Maybe I'm thinking of the bottom line too much, but that's what makes me feel like the scene could have just taken place on a phone call, because the presence of the scene didn't feel like it enriched or enhanced the conversation, or make it feel like the admiral was more capable of coercing or convincing the MC. Whether in this setting, over the phone, or in an office, it would have just been the MC listening to the information, and then relaying it to Nyx. Unless there was some hidden significance to the Admiral being overt in her attempts to be manipulative, maybe?
