The writing is something else, top notch. I love how well written the LIs are, so different yet so alluring. E.g: I'm in love with Veronica even though she's not the most attractive (imo) that's how good the writing is!

Got a new rig, so it was the perfect excuse to replay this gem. Not sure if pointing out typos is worth doing here, but seeing as how I'm too lazy to join any discords or anything, I figured it would be better here than nowhere.

More surprised this game has a flaw in it. I was convinced for a moment that the phrase 'nothing is perfect' was in fact wrong because we're in a simulation or something.

I agree with Zero that it's not really possible to find a game "similar" to Pale Carnations. I would compare it to Mass Effect 2 in that it was developed with the mindset of taking the elements TD and GIL liked in other games and create their own version of "the sweaty nerd power [porn] fantasy." Want to be "the young/naive new kid on the block?" got it, but also want to hold authoritative power over grown women? TD and GIL: "Here's your cake, and you can eat it too." Want women to practically throw themselves at you, but you also like the chase, or perhaps you prefer slowly corrupting someone with a secret willing-sub streak? All this and more. And so on it goes. PC also "borrows" from ME2's playbook by heavily customizing to player choice (just read through this thread on the divergent fans for each girl), and to a greater degree: crafting a character story rather than a plot-driven one, such that the "main plot" is usually forgotten about.
So what should you play between PC Updates? Well that purely depends on which element(s) of PC you want in other games. Some people like Honey Select (HS), others stick with more realistic graphics (3D), some like Maledom (M), while others drool over the occasional Femdom (F) in PC, or just BDSM in general (B), or it's the Power Dynamic (P) over the NPCs or Corrupting them (C) that gets the blood pumping, especially if there's a Harem option (H) (i.e. relationship exclusivity is not required). Then there's the occasional fan who actually puts Writing (W) as a priority over the porn, whether it's the main story, or the characters. With that out of the way, here are some of my personal enjoyments:

Ok this update has solidified Veronica as my favorite character also i think from a writing standpoint she is one of the best written ones

Sure this has been said before within 500 pages, but I feel there should really be additional relationship on-ramps for Mina after 'friendzoning' her. That scene is pretty early in where MC can still be a pretty pure nice-guy and there's a whole combination of reasons there that can make 'crossing the line' feel scummy, like knowing that your job is gonna force you to cheat on her too. It's way to easy to effectively remove a core GF option from the game due to a single questionable choice.
At the very least a "I'm not sure about this Mina.." choice there that she then convinces you on would help a lot as a minimal solution, but her confessing to you again a little latter on after the PC has been morally whittled down by the club more would be a perfect 2nd on-ramp. Though optimally I'd really love to see a whole alternative friendship route that evolves into a delayed but purer relationship in later acts if PC keeps toughness low enough or something.

Even with all this shitty BDSM kink I can't hate Kathleen, she's such a badass while working with a bunch of dirty old men around her.
She also has one of the best sex scenes of the game, her whole powerplay dynamic was really good.

Seriously. It’s been a really long time since I’ve been as invested in a particular LI’s route progression in an adult game as I have with Veronica. Such a multi-faceted character with a great slow-burn romance with the MC that at no point feels rushed or unrealistic in the scope of this game’s premise. Can’t wait to see how her route ends once it finally becomes a clear option for players.

Ian is such a wonderfully well written character. He's one of the best 'side bro' characters in the sea of residual muck residing in the niche of side bros.
Namely whenever it comes to Veronica. Shout out to the artist whose incredible ability to morph facial animations to such a degree that tells us novels worth of detail from a single look at his face.
Check out the scene where he shows up with Veronica to MC's apartment while he's talking with Rose.
We can see during this awkward interaction how bad he feels. There's an image where he's moving something while Veronica is talking to MC and Rose. He's looking downtrodden, away from the scene, almost in shame and annoyance. He's upset he put what he views as his real mother in this situation. It's a brief, but delightful detail.
There's another scene I didn't SS but It's during Rose's exhibition where she's going to do the sex tape. My memory is a little hazy, but iirc, a specific reference about motherhood is made from Kathleen that reminds him of Victoria and his face, in the next frame, expresses sadness. Something wholly absent from him at the club in every other circumstance. It's subtle but it's there.
Another great example of course is if MC refuses to partake in the sextape. Ian IMMEDIATELY, without hesitation, essentially tells Kathleen to fuck off and let it go, and to use him instead. "He's gonna be a doctor" he exclaims to her almost proudly, as if the very idea of her even suggesting Edwin be included offends him.
Unfortunately for Ian, he's included in a game with a brilliant cast of characters and, to his detriment, actively competes in affection points against them. That's the real nail in the coffin to his character that will almost certainly never see the development it deserves from most players. Because frankly, not only are the competing characters for his affection well written, they're smoking fucking hot.
Poor Ian never really had a chance.
