This game was dead long before Minxy stopped posting.
She gave up after a couple of updates. The last update was a joke and we'd heard the "i'm sorry, i'll try harder" shit too many times. Minxy checked out, this was barely on life support that was kept alive and suffering in agony by a few fans that refused to switch off the machine.

You gotta make a decent amount of money to milk it. People are quick to put that label on anyone without thinking about how much money it takes to make that worth any effort. Most likely Minxy didn't realize just how much work goes into making a game over a long development process or simply wrote herself into a hole. Instead of dealing with the backlash of angry people, she just stopped altogether. More or less it wasn't an intentional milking so much as someone not bothering to turn the faucet off.
Patreon really should make it easier to creators to set up something like a pay per update setup. They wont ofc because it hurts their revenue, but it would be the most fair way of doing things.
There are pages on patreon where you pay per item rather than a monthly basis. Mind you, the ones I am thinking of are not for games.

Honestly? all i can tell you, is already written in previous pages...like how she intentionally continued to milk money, despite people sending her even tutorials about how she can stop the monthly check(or you know, that automatic monthly thing that takes money from your bank account just to send them to her) and how she keep acting like "no, you guys never told me about how to do it"
Her game started pretty popular...but she ruined it by not writing a real story, and adding siblings at random...making the basic plot even weirder and nonsensical and i'm talking about 3 in-game days! NOT A MONTH, she took 4 years to give us 3 in-game days of content...that you can play in 2 hours(if you go slow)

man it sucks seeing games that have a lot of potential going to waste by Developers that either don't care or just doing it for the money

and i forgot to mention(i was about to edit my previous post, but you replied like 2 seconds before i could do that)
but for 4 years which are 48 months, she received $800/month (aside the first year when she received around $1200/month, BUT for the majority of time, she got, like i said, $800/month)

The plot was nonsense but it was fun and people warmed up to it. Her player base started growing and as soon as she got enough out to bring in a bit of money she seemed to give up.
We can say it was the pressure and all manner of excuses, fuck knows she used enough of them, but she never paused that Patreon page once even near the end no matter how many people tried to advise or help her get back into it or even build some good will she never listened.
She got away with it for so long because, to talk to her, she seemed like a genuinely nice person. She was easy to talk to, incredibly friendly and very easy to get along with. It also had the downside of it being hard to get pissed at her.
Even me, the self proclaimed queen of shitposting and girl behind a lot of the banter/arguments on this site had a hard time getting annoyed with her. We talked a bit and I genuinely liked her so when it came time to calling out her bullshit I am ashamed to admit I didn't. I tried talking to her like normal and that went nowhere.
I don't know if she set out to milk people and we got manipulated by her friendliness but I am pissed off I fell for it.

shadowr19 that's pretty much what happened...i managed to be critical while still encouraging her as much as i could, i used the "harsh but fair" approach, until the updates started to make little sense and she began to disappear for like 2 months and 29 days, and on the 30th day she came back to post one of those excuses, or claim that she was actually working hard, even sharing screenshots...which we discovered were the same pictures but with different levels of zooming

The 2 hours is you being kind
...but in reality what pissed me off about the dev is the "hey, i'm back, i will make the game great again" and less than a month disappear again, the dev just posted some screenshots about the "new game" and that, but in the end, finally look like patreon is cleaning the site, is not the first "dead" game that i have seen that they remove everything from there.

Beside trying to compile a mental list of what makes a good game, I've been trying to understand what causes a game to die like this. I get the sense that the plot/premise was complex (to be polite). Is that what did it in? Did the Dev get painted into a corner?
Seems to me that a game can't be started until the plot is laid out. Not necessarily written like a screenplay, but all the events and twists and turns and reveals figured out. Is that a fair assessment, or are games abandoned for more technical issues -- lack of time and resources?

There was no plot in this game...only a vague premise.
MC was born, and his mother, gave him away in adoption because she was getting insane(post-partum depression) only to use MC's dad's frozen sperm to have another baby, and adopting a random girl(who will become the owner of the hotel MC and the reunited family is staying) while also having two older twins to take care of.
That's it, the game begins with MC arriving to hotel, and in 3 days(or 2 and a half) discovers what i just told you...while having some sex scenes with every girl in the hotel(including the redhead receptionist)
No real plot, MC's mom just wanted him back...just that...i wish i could tell you more...but literally there is nothing else...

Perhaps the opposite of being painted into a corner, but just as difficult when trying to plot where to go.
And I thought The Last Jedi had a lazy half-baked script.
I've seen game announcements that admitted no real premise had been determined, "but look at these 6 great Daz models I've made!"

I think the dev didn't even think about a plot, but while in MyNewFamily the plot is minimal, but it's at least linear, even the order of birth, makes sense
Here even the basic premise of the game is weird...because MC's mom has the twins first no problems, no depression, then MC's dad dies while the mom is pregnant with MC, and gets both normal depression and post-partum depression...and she does the responsible thing of giving away MC...only to regret it nearly instantly, and instead of going back and taking MC from his step-family...she used artificial insemination to have another daughter and she adopts another one(randomly)...
it's convoluted, confused, just wrong and disturbing...because on one side, having a character who dealt with so much misery was appealing, i mean, depression is horrible, and made the game interesting..but at the same time...was done poorly in my opinion...

My cast of characters has been revised several times. I've identified deadweight and removed it. I've acted on an opportunity to merge two under-utilized characters into one interesting and impactful one. I've even changed my mind on the MC twice. I can't imagine the trouble I'd be in right now if I had started publishing a game. Or the horror if I had accepted money for the development and then realized the plotting was rubbish and had to be redone.

of course keep in mind what Avaron said...Minxy, personality-wise isn't(or wasn't) a problem...but i don't know...she didn't love her creation...that's what i think...sometimes i feel like, she simply wanted to make easy money or maybe she thought that a porn-VN on Renpy would be easier to make...
i mean, i see "giants" like Caribdis really pulling masterpieces like Once in a Lifetime or Eternum. People who either loves what they're doing, or put their efforts into making it good
I still tear up over Oial's harem ending...and the game is made on HoneySelect1, with some customization/modding, the game is not even a sandbox, it's linear but with a solid plot...and god...that final scene...with all of them together...ç_ç so beautiful in its semplicity
I didn't hope that Minxy was at this level...(OiaL wasn't even at its first release)...i mean this game and MyNewFamily were "born" in the same year...and both of them seemed to have a similar but simple plot...
and it's okay, i don't care about huge plot-twists or a huge lore(i mean, it would help me enjoy more the story......but i'm a fanfic-reader, give me a linear story that makes sense, and you made me happy) but Minxy didn't manage to achieve even the most simple concept of plot...or focused only on fanservice...
