Oh damn. I just checked this thread on a whim. I love SRPG porn games and there are so few out there, let alone ones I enjoyed as much as this one. The one by Apollo7 got me in the mood, so I thought I'd poke to see if there was any news, but I certainly didn't expect something as recent as a month ago! I understand completely the decision to rework the story in Ren'py rather than SRPG Studio, and look forward to seeing again and seeing it finished. You have brought me hope when I didn't expect to find any.
I hold nothing but respect and admiration for Tjord, and was downhearted to hear about his "death spiral" as he called it, as well as the decision to put RoAW on a permanent hiatus. I've fooled around with SRPG studio a teensy bit, and the amount of work needed to put into a game like this is, frankly, staggering. Classes, growths, levels, equipment, skills, etc. etc. are all things you might learn as a player, but then to actually balance that against enemies, maps, bosses, and the like is another level. And then do that again for EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER is mind boggling.
And that's just the base game. Then you have to factor in all the work that's required for conversations, and whether or not A talked to B or if C was defeated before A. The SRPG Studio I used was sure as shit not the easiest UI for keeping track of all of that. Or any dialogue at all really.
AND THEN you start on the porn aspect, telling an invigorating story through newly created custom characters.
To call an endeavor like this a passion project undersells just how much effort goes into a game like this. 'Passion' and 'effort' give off a connotation that if you just buckle down and grit your teeth you can get it done. You can't. It's not a sprint. It's not even a marathon. Its a lifestyle. You have to fully incorporate it into how you think, and understand that it's going to be what you're going to be doing for one fuck-ass long time.
So to Tjord: I salute you. Your perseverance is an inspiration, and your creativity is an aspiration.
And to harold: I offer you my deepest gratitude. To be working on a project for half a year speaks volumes of your own perseverance and commitment to your craft. I eagerly await to bear witness to the fruits of your labors.
