Oh dear, poor snowflake. Obviously I'd thought that if you were going to be dishing it out, criticizing the writing to the writer, you'd be prepared to take some in turn.Personal attacks already? Are we allowed to do that now? Since you haven't refuted a single thing I've said I'll just assume you agree and if you agree that she's just a "side character" then all the character building in season 1 was pointless or bad writing? Pick one.
For the record, I chose victim of bad writing. Let's keep it civil.
Plus, I think it rather adeptly showed a quick and tidy turn of phrase, which did indeed answer the implicit criticism.
Now, since you are deciding to play dense (let's be kind and assume you are playing), one of the things you'd notice about this game, assuming you could keep up with the words, is that we don't treat any character as "just a side character".
In fact, as you just so clearly pointed out yourself, undermining your own attempt at some kind of point, we did indeed do a lot of character building - your words, not ours. Guess we did that with the terrible writing, huh? Funny how it came across then.
Mei is, and will remain, an important character. There are several reasons for this, not least of which is that 2 of the 3 main love interests effectively regard her as extended family. Jensen himself cares for her a lot, and specifically pointed out in series one that she reminds him a bit of his first lost love, Jade. Coincidentally, that's one of the things that make her less than ideal for him as a love interest, given he's spent literally decades trying to get past the death of Jade, so having a constant reminder would be ... awkward.
Mei has her own part in the story. Just the same as say, Stephan or Markus do, who work with Jensen, and whom nobody has complained shouldn't be in the game if you can't fuck them. Mei's story is interwoven with Nicky's, and will remain so. She is also the link between the story of Jensen, and the Yakuza, and if you were at all up to date on the plot, you might (if you had the talent for it) be thinking. You'd be thinking that if the Army and politicians may already be compromised, where oh where might Jensen possibly find a powerful ally...
Don't worry though. I'm not going to demonstrate how poor my writing is by making you look foolish. That accomplishment is all your own doing.
