Oooo.... kaaaaay...
I'm not entirely sure what game you are playing.
Because not one single character has said they are no longer attracted to him because of the lack of pheromones/smell. In fact, the only character who commented on the lessescent is Nicky, in the context of talking to someone who at the time may potentially be her half-sister about how she still has the hots for what may be their father, to the extent where even with all her daddy issues she might prefer him not to be her dad in some ways because she is still that attracted to him.

Let's try to make the issue a bit clearer for you on what you missed. We'll start with the obvious leading question:
How many times have you fucked your own father in real life? Would you do so in front of your mother? Is how your father smells, or any part of how attractive he is, the main factor of your decision?

Get it yet?

Jensen, Nicky, Vicky, etc are not "porn characters", they are simply characters. As much as possible, they have realistic personalities and deal with situations accordingly. Unlike 'porn games' they actually think about feelings that are beyond the physical sensations, and they think about the consequences of their choices.

As for the "women don't like sex trope", WTF are you smoking?
We've just had pages of complaints about how the women all like sex way too much and the lesbian takeover is imminent. :ROFLMAO:

Tell that "not invested in characters" shit also to the people whining and even quitting because they can't have one or another specific character. Or just go back to the reaction's to Vicky's big talk with Jensen.

Now, I don't doubt that YOU may not be invested in the characters, but that's because you somehow have paid no attention to what is happening, or being said, in the game at all. Maybe try playing without smoking the crack pipe?
Literally the first sexual encounter and I quote:

Abigail: (What am I thinking? What happened, I felt the strongest sexual urges, but now they're gone.)

Every sexual scene, any romantic interaction is dominated by the pheromones. If not spelled outright, you know it's still the underlying drive and the key for women to have (intitial or continual) interest in you. It's a version of the typical porn game corruption mechanic, but now used not to brainwash your family or random woman as an ugly/mediocre guy, but as to seduce lonely girls/women as a Chad millionaire with accidental corruption. Which is even weirder. And it's a big part of the game.

The "not invested in characters" has little to do with how much lines and scenes you write for which girls. It's just that the women who Jensen is supposedly interested in are so bland to me. They seem closer to making a mutual logical decision of non-loneliness than to instigate any feeling of romance.

And no, I don't smoke crack nor did I ever had sex with my father. I don't see the need to be so aggressive and circumvent my criticism by attacking my character and be misleading on what I said. It's just my honest opinion on what I didn't like. There are others who do like it and even so much as to give you monetarily support for it, which is great. And it's a big part of the game.
No it isn't.

There are 3 love interests and you only get 1 of them. The fucking around stopped quite a way through season 1.

Now you are building relations with 1 of 3 women as well as trying to be a dad and recover enough to take on whatever else it is Adam and crew have planned.

Season 1 had all the sex to ease people into the story and characters. The bulk of the story started in 2 as well as deciding to settle down and romance 1 girl.

That you place such a big emphasis on the random sex shows us you haven't got very far in and base your opinion on a minor fraction of the game.

He settled his attention on Vicky and Nicky in season 1 and that's when the random sex stopped. Eve was added as the third in season 3 but we knew a third was coming and it was obvious who it was going to be to anyone paying attention.

The random seduction of lonely girls stopped being a big part of the game when he got to know Vicky and Nicky properly.

Jensen might've had the pheromone thing, and could've banged any girl he wanted but that doesn't really fit his character. That pheromone thing hasn't been in the game for a while too. I get that early on it seemed like this would be a porn based game, Jensen had 3 girls in his house in a hot tub and all of them wanted to bang him but the game evolved and its clearly a story based game and not a porn game.

People are used to playing these games with all the girls being LI's or at least bangable, but thats not this game. Only 3 LI's and Jensen doesn't sleep around.

Hey dude...

I see you actually reading the novel with some thought...

My idea's with the pheromone thing from the start was a bit of a porn hook... Why would a lot of women suddenly fall for Jensen where in the past they may have found him attractive but did not want to jump him. Jensen "woke up sexually" ... that is where we pick up the story.

The pheromones are a side effect (trade off) with regards to the DNA enhanced soldier program. Each of the 7 members that started this procedures would've had some side effect, but as basically everyone except Adam and Jensen died of this test group we see this only in Jensen...
I've/We have not shown you what Adam's side effect is... Originally it was Team 7 but two died at initial trials, so it became Team 5... If you want the deceased names, they were Antonio and Jose...(yes that is how far i take things)

The Pheromones really took it's toll on Angelique when she gave him the injection you remember. She helped herself to Jensen.
Then as Jensen realised what was happening to him he knew he had to pull away from women to protect them. NOTE not all women respond same way to the pheromone's....
In the lab with the Doctor scientist that device they had affected his pheromones excretion at Beeker's lab, multi fold. Jensen although he was under the influence himself and trust me he was super horny same as the women knew he had to get out of there... Pretty damn strong of him.

Once he actually received the injection from Angelique, the one Adam's scientist spiked he then slowly lost many of his abilities and the pheromone side effect all together.... I believe we showed this fairly well... Serum X-230 (believe it or not i actually thought about that serum name, its not just a thumb suck) is a target based compound and it does not create any side effects. Eve had same treatment... Incidentally Eve was very slightly affected by the pheromones at the coffee shop the first time we saw her. But that faded quickly.

The pheromone thing is gone... Vicky still have that, why she attracted those dudes at the pool table for instance and Christian could not leave her alone(a reason why she is taking martial arts classes and getting in shape again). Why she said to Nicky that time at the breakfast table men want only one thing... she could never understand why they are so sexually attracted to her like that... I know she's pretty hot as it is, still too much attention. She learned to use that to her business advantage...

Both Vicky and Nicky could resist Jensen's pheromones to a point.. Vicky more than NIcky but long enough in his company they would've succumbed.

As it stand... there's no more pheromones from Jensen, Vicky still has that and that is all... Nicky's effect, due to Jensen's influence way back with her mom we have not really talked about...

The most worrying thing to me is that some people seem to understand the story from the start and other's are confused... As a wannabe writer I tried to make it as easy as possible to understand and with Rogue joining late on in Season 1 he also tried to smooth the story out a bit...

Hopefully what i've said above makes a bit more sense to you and anyone else reading/playing this Novel... If you or anyone have questions please ask away... I'm sure we have covered all basis... But a great story writer would not leave people with unanswered question... However as RTP is still just over halfway there's still lots to come.

So, now you want to change what you criticised? Let me remind you of the actual words you used, you know, words, those things that are tools to convey precise meanings.

I feel conflicted about this game and turned it off mid season 2. [...] And the pheromones narrative is often a bit over the top with its "oh now his smell is gone I'm suddenly not really attracted anymore to this peak Chad millionaire".
You indicate that your problem was non-existent enough in series 1 to go ahead and play series 2, but that halfway through series 2, (where he'd already completely lost the over-powering pheromones), that is where you decided to quit. And you state because of how often something that only happened once in series 1, is the cause?

Do you see how that makes me wonder even more now what the hell you are on?

It's not even that Abigail was suddenly no longer attracted to him. It's more that she was no longer under the effect of an aphrodisiac that made her blow a stranger, aggressively, at their first meeting. She'd still have been pretty attracted to a good looking guy with his own company, great apartment, and flashy cars - in other words, all the aspects that your vocabulary limits to "Chad millionaire". You know, provided Chad happens to be a superhuman ex-special forces veteran...

Not one encounter in the second series, the one that according to you is where you had the problem, is 'dominated by his pheromones', not least because he hasn't had them since getting the Gen 3 serum to save his life at the very start of the series. More interestingly, a large number of the women he's still encountering and involved with are the ones that seemed the least affected. We've just recently learned why Vicky and Nicky may have a certain resistance, built up through intimate familiarity. Eve got some kind of blocker back in series 1. Amber never interacted with him long enough to do more than flirt, and still thinks he's a hot older man - she's just more interested now in having a father.

Now, little snowflake, when you go aggressive yourself, deliberately choosing to be provocative and insulting with terms like "chad millionaire", you are initiating that level of dialogue, and get an appropriate response. You're a conflicted little puppy, which I do acknowledge you conceded, because while you are saying your problem is with the pheromones, that's what you enjoyed and continued to play without complaint. But when he lost those pheromones, and none of what you are complaining about is happening for 6 episodes, you gave up after 3.

When you got what you are claiming you were asking for, you gave up after 3 episodes (the number to get halfway through series 2). You complain about the thing that was already gone, and which, once removed, made you subsequently quit. See how that makes me want to invent the word "fuckwittery", make me wonder what the hell you are smoking, and kinda dismiss the entire thing?

Any time your work can inspire such impassioned debate, you know you're onto something. Whilst it may not be everyone's cuppa tea, I say keep the faith and was so impressed with it after viewing the first two series at least three times, although now that I realize I was viewing an old version of series 1, I will have to view that again. The story is that addictive :p

Philly still has people pop up that don't grasp what's going on. Saw it a few times in DA and that's a simple noir story. As good as it is it had nothing complex about it but it had people confused as to the bad guys up to and including who the dragon was to the story.

COBD has people confused too.

You'll never be able to make a story everyone gets. Some people get everything just fine, others can read between the lines and see what's going on behind the scenes in the story to know what's coming and some simply won't understand at all.

Most of those that don't get it are those that skip bits or skip lots to get to the scenes.

Even simple things can cause confusion. WTHI has people debating whether it's a harem game or a dating sim and it's 15 updates in with no one agreeing what type of game it is. Granted the dev is trolling people by not clarifying and i'd had enough, to make certain things work would require nearly all the narrative to be ignored and I got bored arguing that point.

And that's a pretty basic story.

People will always try and interpret things their own way and if they have skipped some what they make up with their head canon never lies within what's happened in game and gets twisted.

All you can do is make the story and build the world and characters you want to and sooner or later hopefully those that haven't got it yet will start too.

The remastered version of Series 1 isn't *too* different in story at all, in fact it is in essence identical. We didn't want to retcon any of the story, but we did believe we could refine and polish how we were communicating some of it, especially some of the more subtle elements. Because there actually are a lot of subtle elements and layers to the story, to the characters, and so forth.

For example we tweaked and polished the early dialogue between Nicky and her mother to get a little more nuance, and a bit better insight into their relationship across. We added more clue into how Mei's actions on the sofa with Jensen after that scare at school were actually a sort of 'sexual healing'. We refined the bar-scene on the date with Vicky, and in all other ways simply tweaked and polished to better express the intent that was there.

Same story, but hopefully a little smoother and richer than it had been.

Yep, that's essentially our own feelings too. I really enjoyed DA, and it is one of the closest in many ways to what we have here, an action thriller with sexual content, but in terms of plot complexity, RtP has a hell of a lot more moving parts.

In addition, and a warning here to anyone who'd like to dev a game or write the story for one, the whole episodic nature of releases has a huge effect. In a movie, book, TV show, or even a completed game, if a scene misleads or confuses you you only have to continue a bit to see it resolved. But with episode releases, you may have to wait six weeks to see the next episode, and there's always the chance that the resolution to your particular concern isn't in the next episode, but a few episodes away.

It can be very hard in that circumstance not to jump to conclusions, and then get irate at the conclusion one jumped to, even though it wasn't correct.

Hopefully, those truly paying attention, are getting to see how far and deep we go in foreshadowing even the small details in many ways. For an example, what we just discussed about how Vicky having picked up an 'inhuman' pheromone trait from Jensen many years previously had been a part of her story all along - and she talked about that in her very first scene. Some things are less obscure, such as how in that same Vicky conversation with Nicky it foreshadowed that something very bad had happened to her, helping players to 'brace themselves' for the reveal that came in series 2 of what that bad thing was.

But this naturally means that, quite often, we are going to set up mysteries or situations that make you wonder "Why the hell show us that?". We don't expect not to confuse people. We merely expect them to be familiar enough with drama generally, in some media, to understand that that's how drama works. We introduce mysteries, and questions that, so far, are unanswered. We sometimes bait and switch. We sometimes make you wonder where the heck things are going. Sometimes the villains will seem to be unbeatable... All to enhance the drama for the final (hopefully satisfying) revelations and resolutions.

The part that is frustrating to me, personally, is when we get feedback from people who have apparently never read a book or watched a movie (that wasn't porn), and have no concept of how drama, or storytelling work.

For instance, imagine a graph. Now imagine that we graph elements of a story progression.

Maybe a blue line shows how much we know about our central characters over time, and steadily rises through most of the movie, with a sudden dramatic dip or spike at that point in the story where some character was revealed to not be at all what they had seemed (like with our Barista girl from series 1). Overall though, this blue line is an upward trend all the way from the start of the story to the end.

Maybe a red line represents the excitement level of the story over the duration. A flat line, at any height, would actually be bad. Generally you want the excitement to rise to peaks and then settle back. Usually it will overall rise over time, but in a jagged pattern, and peak right before the end, settling down again so you can absorb the happy conclusion. Sometimes though a story starts off with a highly exciting action sequence just to give people a sense of how exciting it is all going to be.

Think now of dividing that graph up into chunks of timeline - say quarters, for 4 series. If those chunks now all look like the same graph is shown in each, there's something seriously wrong. And yet, we have people sometimes complain that Series 1 is a different shape to Series 2, as if that is in any way surprising, or abnormal, for any real story in any media.

That lack of basic understanding of grown-up stories frustrates the heck out of me. :D

Edit: Just wanted to say I finished playing through S01 and while not the most engaging gameplay, I definitely found it to be one of the more engaging visual novels I've come across so far. Looking forward to going through series 2. I'm also keen to see the story develop further. I'll be honest, I don't feel the story feels completely fully fleshed out (or maybe airtight) but, for me, the circumstances, interactions, motivations, they all scan, and I'm hooked. I'm a fan of Ludlum's Bourne series, and reading/watching this VN kind of leaves me with the same feelings I had when first reading the Bourne series of books. Not sure if anyone wil get what I mean by that. But in any case, keep up the great work, devs, writers, and artists.

I'll leave the code issue to MrKnobb or his main code helper, but wanted to thank you for your added comment.

It's a fair point on the gameplay, that there are relatively few choices in the game, and that the real branching will only come towards the ending. Honestly, that's simply practicality, as this was already an insanely ambitious first story just to get one path right with so many details and layers of complexity. We also haven't fudged it to make it look like a lot more choices by having choices that really go to the same place, and none of those 'game over' ones that people only immediately rollback from anyway, so again are not real choices.

The practicality is in another sense too though. With so much mystery, so many "unknown unknowns" (the things you don't even know you don't know), it would be all too easy to make sensible seeming choices that ultimately bit you in the ass. We didn't want to slow down the entire game to actually give you everything Jensen has learned over years in terms of both his abilities, and, for example, those of Adam.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

A mostly linear, points-based VN is simply the best format given the complexities of the story and the characters both. There will be more choices once Jensen starts to take the initiative, where previously he was merely reacting to things, often without time for finesse.

Hopefully that feeling that it isn't fully fleshed out is merely the fact that Jensen himself barely knows what is going on throughout the first series - there are big gaps in his understanding, and thus there are gaps in the story as you perceive it through him. But as you go into series 2 you'll discover things that make you realise there was more there than you understood, and you'll see clues that didn't make sense until later.

For us, we always felt that getting the characters right, their motivations and their reactions to circumstances, was the real key to the story, so I'm truly delighted you say it all scanned well for you. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy all that is yet to come.

As for your error... MAC ugh not my forte but let's try... Did you start fresh Season 2 with no saves from Season 1? Saves from Season 1 wil not work unfortunately.

In Season 2 start it asks you which of the 3 girls you want to go for. Eve is the Neither option.. at the start...

Let me know

Looking forward to going through series 2. I'm also keen to see the story develop further. I'll be honest, I don't feel the story feels completely fully fleshed out (or maybe airtight) but, for me, the circumstances, interactions, motivations, they all scan, and I'm hooked. I'm a fan of Ludlum's Bourne series, and reading/watching this VN kind of leaves me with the same feelings I had when first reading the Bourne series of books. Not sure if anyone wil get what I mean by that. But in any case, keep up the great work, devs, writers, and artists.

Guys..... i am speachless, i love this one, great story lines and very beautifull women, I mean Vicky and Eve.....breathtaking. Sure , there are not many sex scenes in the second chapter, but that doesn`t matter because the story doesn`t need them really, very well done!!!

No, it's just part of the story, Jensen isn't interested in incest. Nothing to do with Patreon it just doesn't fit the character or story they are making so aren't adding it.
Few MC's are "interested" in incest, but rather they get smacked upside the head with dat ass and dem tits (repeatedly), and eventually succumb to ongoing internal & external pressure (applies to most IC games). Just saying.

I agree that Jensen's not into it, but particularly with regards to Nikki? (haven't played in a while, the dark haired maybe-daughter) I could conjure up a scenario where it came to pass in a believable, tasteful (relatively speaking) manner.

Play it and you'll see the Nicky outcome. Nicky is my fav too. Just stick with the Nicky path... it's going to be hot.

Nicky isn't his daughter.

Only Amber is his kid.
