I know that it's a very rough estimation but let's see :

- Around 2 millions dollars from Kickstarter

- An unknow amount from steam (Early Access).

We don't know how much from Steam, but at least we can try to estimate it. There is a way to estimate those sales using the number of review :
View attachment 1123973

I think I can use this data of 41 sales per review, since as I said before, it's still a rough estimation.
Game has currently 6094 review.
Price of the game is set at 30 $. I don't know if price is the same for each country (I think no) but still, most buyers comes from Europe / USA.

So we can estimate the number of sales at nearly 250 000.
Which give us an income of nearly 7 500 000 $
minus the 30% steam commission : 5 250 000 $

So with Kickstarter + steam sales we have something like : 7 250 000 $

Well, fair enought, it's not 10 millions (I said this because I used anoter "sales per review" ratio, which seems to be outdated, now it's more accurate.)
There is regional pricing, I've seen some folks say they've gotten it for the equivalent of 5 USD, so the total number is gonna vary a lot.

Even so, I sincerely doubt they're gonna redo the entire system/script with the income. It will likely be going to hiring more people to improve upon the sex animations, as they've stated in the Recruitment section of the latest Kickstarter update.

I recall a friend who laughed at people who spent all day on twitter while ironically spending his entire days staring at the bright light on his phone playing games and posting on reddit.
If there had been a world wide collapse in regard of social media platforms. I think a lot of people would gone bonkers. No facebook, no twitter, no instagram, no nothing... yeah that would go down very well...

Probably. I just always found it funny whenever I met people who scoffed at others for spending all thier time on one social media platform while not self realizing they too spend all thier time on another.

That Subverse is finished or not is debatable but they where stating

3) Subverse is a story-driven game meant to be experienced as a whole, not in the stop/start fashion that is forced by Early Access. Having to wait potentially up to a month for the next chapter to be released will really hurt the momentum of the overall game.

4) Internally, we've seen the difference between a fully completed section of the game and an Early Access one, and it's night and day in terms of quality. We feel it would be a disservice to you guys and the project to release it before the quality you deserve can be achieved throughout the game.
Bit confusing why they didn't keept it still in your backers Space but decided for a public release now

So overall i wouldn't call this finished and you playing it ;)

Except the backers paid for full VA's, so its expected to be there. And its not 'at the cost of sex scenes'. You've seen like 8-10 scenes from 3 ladies. You really can't say its not good enough when its barely the beginning.

And it just keeps repeating that people want it in the story, they want it in the story....You don't know how much is in the story, we've just seen one scene when they join the crew. For all we know there's 10 more premium scenes for each girl between here and the devotion quest capoff. But we don't know. And all the speculation in the world isn't doing anything but just causing endless debate.
The issue here is like any other Kickstarted game or hyped up game. Developers promise one thing not understanding what that may entail for development. Voice acting is great, though not necessary for a porn game. Because the need for a voice actor, that hinders development. You know what would've been better, having that as a hidden goal and making it a surprise instead of integral part of the deal.

That scenario would've meant some scenes could've had quality voice acting that may've been pleasant surprise instead of expected. Then Studio F.O.W as well, could've added as many scenes as they wanted to main story to contextualize the porn without voice acting or the use of Pandora system to insert those scenes. And enthusiasts here would want that extra context for the scene instead of smut with slightly better moans than the generic ones. Though that time shipped has sailed and hindsight is always 20/20. That being said I really hope that this game maybe able to overcome its shortcomings.

You see with most games that launch on kickstarter they have a early access phase. Primary probably the need for a cash injection. Game development isn't free, and even you raise funds on kickstarter it doesn't always make you go the full distance.

I read their dev team was 12 people. And they are looking to hire more people. Proper dev talent with the skills they looking for doesn't work for minimum wages...

Early access is also a great way to get feedback on your progress. It's far easier to do changes under way than have to change things when everything completed.

People that buy into early access games should do so with eyes wide open. You wouldn't expect a game that get released through this site in a 0.1 version to be complete. So why of Subverse?

I don't think the story would be nearly as good with no voice acting, especially in the cinematics. Not to mention lines would definitely fall flat with no emotion other than our basic ass voices reading it to ourselves :p

You extracted the cost of development yet, or done any actual thought about those numbers? Just curious....

Might be worth checking out....

No, we don't need to go THAT deep since I already said that my estimation was still very rough.

The thing is that I wanted to answer to Vvalen who said that giving context to the sex scenes (with a branching story as an example) was not possible given the ressource of the studio.

I know it's not an easy challenge, but you can't possibly say that they didn't have enough ressource.

So we can estimate the number of sales at nearly 250 000.

According to this, it has a max of 20k owners, with a peak player count of 1.7k.
If it was 250k owners like you say, concurrent players would be at least 10k.
