Holy shit guys, it's a fucking game for you to jerk off, not something like Cyberpunk who promised many things and delayed it so many times, to end up being a complete broken shit.
Also, i see many people complaining about the sex scenes. Should I remind you that, apart from very few games, the rest of the sex scenes in other games are a visual novel without sound and that the only mechanic in the entire game is click in one of the two options?
Hell, this game is only in V0.1 and it has dubbed dialogues, 4/5 hours of gameplay and although for now they are only loops, actually animated sex scenes.

I see it like a total win.
Its unfortunate that folks can't share positive opinions or outlooks on the game, else they're called a shill fanboy. And the ones that are vehemently pessimistic are generally just people who've been burned by AAA titles so much they just can't help but see the worse case scenario in everything.

You can't really rate Subverse as an AAA title though (maybe if you just confine it in a niche of adult games). As the guy from the review linked earlier said, you don't get much game for 2 mill (or what he said) nowadays, hence early access for injection of funds...

Problem is at large people buying into early access and go "what? is this all?", not really grasping early access at all. I'm all for valid critic. There been some nice reviews around that pointed out both upsides and downsides. Some people just take it to far imho. Take like F76 and Cyberpunk as example. They became everyones favorite to dogpile on. People had to overdo each other in serve up the biggest pile of shit to be the most relevant.

I'm pretty sure all of that was not even remotely detailed during the funding phase.
I understood this by the first month. Before the funding period even ended.
They've been clear since the very beginning that they KNOW their tastes don't appeal generally and that the scenes were a choice from the player.

And strangely enough I've read a good amount of VNs with H scenes that are completely integrated in the plot on PC
That would be better, I 100% agree.
But StudioFOW were cowards. They had no faith in their sexual content (which honestly turned out to be true considering how many complaints people have to the sexual content)
So they split the sexual content from the main game entirely and made it player choice.

Just because I agree with you it'd make a better game if the adult stuff actually mattered in the plot doesn't mean I don't understand their decision for doing it the way they did.

That said, I did expect to whole thing to at best be okay-ish, just not that the most disappointing thing would be the one they've built their name on previously.
This statement makes no sense.

___

Again, I dislike subverse, but your complaints have mostly been that they fooled you.
They didn't. If you don't like what you got it's because you weren't listening when they told you what they were giving you.

Lol I guess you don't have standards.
Why compare this game to DAZ VNs btw? Compare it to other $2 million projects... oh wait.

This game is not as fun as other games I've played that have way less money put into them, and it's a shame because it's a big $2 million project.

EDIT: Also

Literally what is this community... How can you like these games and also like StudioFOW. It makes no sense.

But there is such thing as being extremely over the top optimistic and that is no better than being extremly over the top pessimistic.

2 mill today is not big in any sense or form when considering game development that involve medium sized studios. After a couple years you burned through most of it.

Well Cybperpunk maybe, but F76 deserved everything it got.

And still... F76 is quite enjoyable to play these days, it come a long way. As for Cyberpunk I played through it without much issues at all.

So dogpile on Subverse now without even know how the final result will be is just a waste of calories imho..

Yeah these days, but look how long to took to get there. I mean it deserved what it got because it was made by billion dollar company who for years were notorious for buggy games on a aging engine.

It's not like Beth was a small time studio releasing their first game. There is a difference between a company's first rodeo and a company that's gained billions and been in the industry over 2 decades.

Bricky review pointing out a lot of good positives and a LOT of negatives
Good vid. Not sure how many of his critiques can be changed (i.e the script, as its likely been fully recorded already), but if they're making enough from EA sales, they might be able to rewrite later portions of the game. One can hope.

You think the disappointment would be nearly as large if the production values on the games weren't so high.

People had high expectations.

It was their first MMO though. (ESO was not made by them). Making a single player game and a mmo, quite different. Their fault was to hype it to much, and no real beta test phase. With Subverse we have an early access release where we will see progress as the game come along, and people will have the ability to come with feedback to them along the way too. It's easier to make changes during development than have to go back and fix things after a full release. They have responded to critic as well.

Certainly not, I've fully agreed that certain parts of the game need work (namely Pandora), but I'm willing to be positive about it just based on how much they've communicated about their progress and the work to be done. So many other companies woulda just dropped a tweet saying 'we heard you, we're listening' and then not say anything for months. FOW put out a whole statement a week into release, and dropped its first patch a few days later.

I think its safe to say the player's voices have been heard, so all we can do now is wait for the rest of the content. I just wish we could do it without debating over NTR and Xeno scenes for the 100th time.

Y.....y...yeah, well wheres your game?!
Usually the devs themselves trot out this kind of disrespectful, anti consumer take when they can't defend against a single point of criticism of their game. It's rare a "fan" would go this direction when it's not your game either.

Sunk cost is a hell o a drug. Yeah, everyone would have preferred FOW to make an actually good game. Everyone knew it wouldn't live up to the hype, as from the start it was bullet hell + VN layout a pretty lowtier idie affair. Yeah expectations and "good" is subjective. It's just hilarious they objectively missed every bar they set for themselves, even the bar of releasing a finished product.

That they failed at gamedesign 101 with their core design decisions and it led to this patchjob mess of things like having no progressive relationship building integrated into your gameplay yet still tossing in a date mechanic.

That they did "full voiceacting" yet as an animation studio neglected to actually mocap or animate the sprites talking.

That they have so much "lore" outside the game changing with every reddit AMA because they haven't actually justified or explained mantics or their gameworld inside of it; and effectively can't due to voicework constraints without going back in the booth.

The list goes on, every feature and design point of subverse is it's own paragraph on how they fucked it. theres almost 140 reviews here and the hilarious thing is the detailed 1/2 star reviews making up the bulk of feedback don't overlap. Almost every detailed negative review is addressing a different facet of why it pretty truly deserves it's F- 2.5/5 aggregate rating.

Most everyone seeing this about to hit .0000000000000000000000000000000000000001a expected a cringe but functional "stop the badguys" story, bullet hell-smhup gated story/game progression, monster sex, and some kind of evolving system of dialogue and interaction with the girls to make the "linear" plot game a "sandbox" experience. A lot of people gave them the 2 years and benefit of the doubt they'd make something meh but worth playing full of waifus and monster sex. From the gameplay demo and announcement of the shortcut of the pandora system, most everyone knew this game would be exactly as you see here.

You wouldn't need to doggedly, yet unsubstantively, defend a game you only have a backer pledge stake in if it was actually the product you were promised.

Production value is relative too. How far do you think game development would bring you with 2m in the bank, and a team of 12 people that obviously work for more than what they would earn working at McDonalds. How many years do you think you could live of that with running cost, wages and all that come with it, when consider develop a game such as Subverse to a full.

Of course location would matter too, as you could get cheaper talent in like eastern Europe/Russia than Western Europe/England, the US etc...

Adeptus Steve pulling 100k+ a month on Patreon now. DarkCookie 74k+, how many years these guys been at it now? What production values should we put on their projects?

Well other porn games, hardcore or otherwise aren't trying to mark themselves as 30 to 40 dollars on steam. In my opinion the developers made a mistake marketing this game as AAA-esque game. They should've simply said that this would be biggest budget, highest profile porn game to date. They wanted to be treated as a triple AAA game, well this is a consequence.

If they wanted to be treated as a triple A game, they'd have taken the suit's offer, and we'd be dealing with gacha and lootbox mechanics.

This is the story we can't confirm if it actually happened or not. Do you really believe everything people say to you? They can say tomorrow someone offered them 10 millions for removing all Xeno scenes from the game but they refused because they care about fans so much.

We can confirm however they wanted to make us believe it is AAA kind of game. Even before my ban on Steam people were saying the game will be Mass Effect with porn and nobody came forward to deny it. During trailer update they said it is "first premium porn experience" or something like that.

Let's not base our opinion on the dev based on how high they talk about themselves. Me claiming they would take EGS money for exclusivity if only they would allow adult games has as much value - we won't know if this is true.

What consequence? Majority of the people on this site that played the game didn't pay a dime for it. And even if it had been AWESOME right out of the box they still wouldn't. Their success is based on how well it end up do on steam (and eventually their own site).

I didn't even check out their kickstarter before after I got the game from steam. After reading through it. I wasn't left with feeling of being scammed into something else than what they described..

Checked the price tag on Illusion games on steam recently?

So if they don't deny something its true, but if they do say something about another event, you have to be hesitant about it?

So if they did deny it, would you even take that as true, or just be as hesitant now?

I believe you can quote Bart Simpsons on that one.. "You are damned if you do, and damned if you don't"

Some people you can never please, and some people will refuse to believe everything and anything is nothing but a lie...
