You know what, if someone came along and said r.nest passed away during covid and his evil brother who knows how to finesse the shit of patreons, first got access to what he was working on beforehand and second his patreon account, i would actually find to be fairly believable and a bit of respect might actually be restored for the dev.

Better than the shameful fake promise every 2nd month. I know if i missed a date once, i wouldn't give a 2nd date and i would try get that shit out asap to try get some bit of integrity back.

Imagine ordering something from Amazon last year and they give you a ETA by 18th of that month... then after missing the date on the 19th or 20th they say 'oh delivery is being rescheduled for the 30th' because we were sick. Then the 30th comes and still recovering from the cold so needs more time.. a month goes by and Amazon repeat the process again... they do this 10 times again and again throughout the whole year but maybe two or three times the pause your amazon prime as a sign of good faith... This is what r.nest has been doing.

Obviously its a bad comparison because a normal person would just cancel it after that first or 2nd missed deadline. But somehow those dumbass masochistic patreons do not.

The question is "is there anyone alive that remembers what it was like when he was making the first game?"
I wasn't following it back then, but I would really like to know if this was the same shit they put up with during the first game.

I have been following since about halfway through the first one and as far as i remember he rarely ever delayed a date he set back then. Maybe one 1 out of 3 releases for Succ1 you would see a delay and at most it would be by a couple of days.
Don't think it ever came to a week delay, not to mind the delay after delay after delay endless loop that's going on now.

Bad News and Some Good News

I wanted to post this image with the waiting room post with some clever title related to "buried in work"... Well I'm posting it anyway.
The bad news: Pledges paused again, no release in November either
The Good(?) news: I'm getting hospitalized until the end of the week. Hopefully by then I'll get rid of a chronic issue that's been plaguing me for years, and got worse since I got sick last month.
Until next post.
P.S. It's not life threatening, so don't you go thinking "that's it, it's the last we'll ever hear of him" :)
I'll be back next week.

It really is becoming a trend for these game devs to use the "I'm sick so no new content" excuse. At the very least the dude paused the pledges.

At least he semi finished 1 game... and that game was huge.
I think there are many other more lazy & evil creators here scamming people.
I still do not have any hope in this game... the dev is a nihilist that thinks he has to deliver heavenly quality that is 99.9% perfect. Instead of creating a finished rough project he instead scraps his own project 10 times and only works on the very beginning of the game even though he could have finished it already if he would just change his mindset of just finishing the game and then refining it.
This is like ocd and a dev with this trait is a failure and you should generally not trust them. It is a wonder this guy even managed to finish his first game. This miracle will not happen again.

Has anyone seen any of these scrapped projects?

It seems like theres a large number of people who believe that the issue is that hes obviously creating more content, but just keeps cutting it.

Id imagine its pretty easy to make a single scene pose for a patreon post claiming that its new content, without actually having anything more than a picture, then "scrapping the plan" because it didnt pan out and claiming that you spent 3 months working on content that had to be cut.

Succulence 2, dude. Whatever you've seen of it is just a drop in the bucket. He's a fountain of ideas and will add a few in, but then he takes some time away and it's like every bit of work he did on a previous version gets pulled into a black hole. I've seen 3 different versions and the one with the most content in it had the smallest map.
Backtrack along this thread, man. It is guaranteed that if the version number is different it's pretty much an entire different experience.
I think it's a damn shame. I love the idea of a weather system and different reactions dependent on that. The idea of her working at a TV studio has so much potential, but before he even adds more weather conditions to the weather report he's talking about some undercover student storyline that's basically hurling us back into the first game's concepts.

I think this guy could probably churn out a freakin' masterpiece of game, but this seems to be the course. I firmly believe that he knew what he was doing on that older version of RPG Maker the first game was made with and he most likely gets so frustrated with the new version he's using that he scraps his work like an artist tossing away a sketch.

I mean, you can give this Dev the benefit of the doubt that he is not actually trying to milk his Patrons. He is way cheaper than other Devs and also pauses the payment when he does not produce anything. Other Devs dont do Updates for months and then post kinda small Updates at some point, while still having the payment active AND charge more on Patreon.

Also, this Dev has a finished game, and a very good one on top of it.

It is just really the case that he seems to be stuck in his head. He always produces something, then has some ideas how to improve it or is unhappy with his production and reworks it over and over again. And until he either has a version which he is 100% satisfied with OR accepts that there will be no perfect version which would please everyone, this willl continue.

And I think all of the players would just appreciate if he would release something, even if it is not perfect. There will always be stuff which is disliked by some and there will always be stuff that can be improved. But he will never achieve having a perfect game, which is fine. Even the best-rated games here "only" manage to get 4,9 stars, which means that there are people who want more.

I would guess, if he would start to release Succulence 2 and adds content on top of this, this game would easily get 4 stars at least.

Dont like giving him excuses to play into but honestly i think its just from that 1st/2nd release of succ2 that has him turtling in a shell, maybe a bit also that he is continuing on from a finished story and yeah, him using a new engine is hurting him too.

After the 1st/2nd release he got slated, loads of complaints mostly about bugs and he ended up losing roughly 30% of his patreons at the time (which he has regained and only grown since he started doing the delay shit).

But still, i don't think it was the patreon loss, but the critism he received as he had never received it before. Its also shown in this thread which had reviews purged at least 2 times which i assume was at the devs request.
