tested it and it worked for the blue herbs in a shiny point that I hadn't triggered the bug on but couldn't get green herbs, so either green isn't working or the point was consumed when the bug was triggered, probably the later but I don't have a save old enough to confirm. I attached my current save right before blue herb collection.

edit: added an old save during correct time for green herb collection to show bug (save 9)

How do i get to Melvdat? I am in Hessen but there is only an inaccessible volcano and no boat to go to the other side of the island

Use the makkira's wing and teleport over. its that village after the colored stone mine to rosenburg

i also got the same problem. i tried according to the picture given but im also dead. previous 12 month cycle it just showed me a message saying it wasnt ripe yet or somewhere along those lines but that was on the lower left side of the herbs. it never ripened and never appeared again. also the small medal near the queen on the floor did not give a message and just outright vanished when i tried to pick it up after i got the 15k skillpoint that makes a shiny on the floor fml

So... any DQ fan here? I enjoy the gameplay and intend to try the original. Only DQ game I played was 9 and this is nowhere close. Is this closer to DQ 1? 3? 5? How do you rate this game compared to the source material?

I think I remember hearing 5 was the closest to this one. Most of the Dragon Quests don't have a Monster Taming system as complex as this one does (Outside of the DQ Monsters series, of course).

If you want a recommendation, I highly recommend 8 and 11. 8 has an amazing story, and 11, while its story isn't as good as 8's, improves upon the gameplay in many regards. Both are great games.

On a side note, I found 9 to be very disappointing back when I played it, since I went into it blind, expecting the same quality as 8.

I tested this post's GoFile link a while back and saw no corruption for the first 30-60 minutes of gameplay. If you are seeing immediate corruption, you most likely messed something up:

1) If you are seeing menu text that makes no sense, or your game window's Title is gibberish instead of Japanese, or you are getting an error when opening the party menu after the prologue, it isn't being encoded correctly.
You can check the OP under the Installation tab to see how to set up Japanese Encoding. If you want an extractor recommendation, I use Bandizip (Just make sure to change its extraction setting to Japanese).

2) If your game window doesn't say 1.24, you didn't properly run GameUpdate.bat. If you run it and nothing happens, you probably have your game sitting in a bad file path.
Bad file path means that it is either too long, or includes an unsupported symbol for the Command Prompt (like [ or ]).

I also suggest you start a new game after properly setting things up, since one of the files loads only a single time, at the start of a new save.

think i'm good now, it was just the party menu which is honestly completely barable i was just worried it would affect more.
Did a update just now via the .bat and the problem is completely gone now so maybe it was fixed

you just need to install emulator and then run with Japanese locale. when right click to .exe it will show

Could you explain what happens for this? We might be able to fix it depending on what the softlock is.

The "Language for non-Unicode programs" is the only thing that needs to be in Japanese. Also make sure that the Beta: UTF box is NOT checked.

You should also make sure that you actually have the Japanese language pack installed to your computer.

If you still see the text jumbled up after setting this up properly, it's possible that the text is hard-stuck like that unless you start a new save file. One of the master files for this game only loads when you start a new game.

If that's the case, I suggest you start from scratch after properly setting up the locale, including re-extraction of the .zip file (I use Bandizip, if you want an extractor recommendation--Just change its Default Code page to Japanese in the Extraction settings).

I am not sure how but the image problem kind of fixed itself after the first chapter after meeting Eri. I am not sure why. Thanks nonetheless.

I've noticed as I've progressed, the amount of gold I need to donate to the church for reputation improvements has gone up. Does anyone know what this goes by? Story progress, total donations value, town development, or something else?

After you donate certaint amount of money to the church, the priest will give you book to mass create an items.

Its also increase your fame town, this will prevent enemies from invading your town. If your fame is low enough / BAD, there's a chance enemies will invade your town. If enemies is invading your town, notification will pop up (on top right) and an event will occurs if you enter your town. If you failed the event, this will lead to H-Scene also Game Over, but you can keep retry until you success. So its better to fail and get the H-Scene and then retry.

how do you farm roulette medals? im already at the final story boss and only have 6 medals to blow.

It seems ill be forced to get the girl i dont fancy as theres no other choice for a pt wide heal. JP wiki gave a long list of pulling out all the stops for gear ontop of the heal but noted it was basically essential to have it in addition to an over leveled party

Just beat the game. half my party was dead lol. i actually gambled with under powered charge attacks and it ended with eri's normal smack.

Thats was such unique party comp, ngl. Difficulty spikes towards the end was unexpected indeed, it hits pretty hard.
