To be fair, the game does make a good job to make sense.I agree, for me it is like a bad way to encourage to replay the game, you have to consult an external source other than the game in order to reach the optimal outcome. For me, the whole action + reaction = consequence should be based in common sense and real problem solving situations, not mental gymnastics. However, i dont have problems with execptional situations where the consequences are totaly unpredictible and some butterfly effects here and there if the justification for it make sense later on.
Many things are a gamble where you don't even know what certain choices do for you.
But the way how the hidden values work are surprisingly well thought out.
Like doing a certain section with chars with 100 affinity gives you bonus-points somewhere, cause it shows that person that you treat your members well.
I would say, rarely does a game use more common sense than this game... which might be the problem, since the player isn't used to this attention to detail.
So far, it never really feels like mental gymnastics and things you do that might seem inconsequential at first still have consequences, but it still makes sense in the context.
Buuuut if you don't have any numbers or somewhere to check, you would never know.
It's the classic "Which partymember do you greet first after a reunion?".
Does it matter?
Well yes... it does.
