You don't combine it in the ancient thing. Instead you just "use" it in your inventory then it gives you an option to combine.

Did you play with or without mod ? I think it caused by the mod. I tried to reinstall em and it works fine.

There is a key hidden in the jungle. First you have to find "Old Map" On the map is an X that shows the location to dig up the key.

your saves can't be gone, because they are stored in AppData. Either you cleaned AppData or the game has no permission to access AppData now.

It is a difference if you play on Android or on Windows/Mac/Linux.
