Yeeesh what a incoherent mess this VN has become, it's a shame since I liked many of the characters a lot but I think it's time to forget about this one, guess I will play the old version before the rework one last time and then bury it along with the other great games that got shafted too early, too soon... seriously, f*ck p*treon and their asinine policies.

After all the comments here, I've now played through the game a second time. I thought that if so many people were crying, I must have missed something important. Maybe I didn't understand something either. Checking yourself and your own opinion is an important basic characteristic of adult civilized people. Well, I'm sticking to it. The game is better in its current state. The incest stuff isn't needed for the story. The mafia stuff didn't come as a surprise. That there is some form of organized crime has been in the game for ages. No one ever implied Ocean was good at storytelling. So I don't expect him to adopt the Hollywood clichés about the mafia either. These clichés are just as out of touch with reality anyway.
By the way, some said the whole thing about taking in children of wiped out mafia families was unrealistic. Also that these children are then misused for marriage politics. Well, there have indeed been such cases. Both the Ndrangheta and Cosa Nostra have a number of known cases. One such case is, for example, the marriage of Giulia Immacolata to Vincenzo Macrì. Such cases also occurred in the historic blood feud between Greco clans in the 1940s. Allegedly also in the San Luca feud in the 1990s and 2000s. But in the case of the latter, it is more likely to be the conjecture of investigative journalists, as I am not aware of any evidence.
So all in all, one can make the game worse than it is just because one is anal about the fact that ones favorite fetish is no longer included. But I don't have to take that seriously and accept it as a basis for discussion.

For me it's not the elimination of a fetish or that the "mafia" is stupid, it's how Ocean implemented these changes
As I said, I think, in my first post after the chapter came out: The arranged marriage by alliance doesn't seem as stupid to me as many say, but the way Ocean executed it is a problem.
- As for the Pedersoli and Grimaldi families, they have been wiped out, so the feud is over. Therefore, a shotgun wedding would be too late and too little to appease the vengeance of the branches of the two families that are outside the country.
- While I see two problems with the Zanes.
The first is that it seems excessive to keep two boys aside in case you need to marry them to quell a feud for X years.
And second, probably due to Ocean wanting to remove incest from his game, Leia and William are not considered Zane in virtually any respect; consequently their marriage would have almost no value for an alliance.

The incest can come or go. I thought Will leaving made more since when it was an incest story but I can accept the new terms.
The biggest issue I have is tonal whiplash. Will and Leia are constantly told they are powerless, Will is always a step away from exile after returning. Yet despite that, Will and Leia are also political capital to be used in possible marriages. That implies they have some worth as "Zanes" because otherwise I would think it would be offensive to marry someone off that doesn't actually bring you any additional power when it comes to these types of arranged marriages. While swallowing all of that, we see Leia constantly working on her own enterprise, and uses her own men to protect the Zane family, that should have their own guards, etc. If Leia is so powerless, Donna Helen shouldn't have to rely on Leia's men to come scope everything out.
It's late for me and I could probably go on more but I don't hate the "new" stuff, just adjusting to it, I guess.

Was it mentioned that the Zanes are having William and Leia as political capital for marriages? If it was, I completely missed that in the game. I thought it was just fan headcanon/theory.

I can reinstall and do another run through, but off the top of my head I thought it was during one of the conversations with Katie. Someone else might be able to verify faster or completely shoot it down and save me the work.

You have to show interest in Katie, so when she takes a shower instead of leaving William is in the bathroom with her and they discuss the reason why Leia, Willy and Katie can't mate with each other.
