The project is simply too ambitious I'm afraid. They want to develop a fully fledged 3rd person ARPG with survival elements, a story and sex. Yet the reason people are backing this on patreon is probably because of the good graphics and sex animations. So for each new update, the devs probably have to allocate a lot of resources into new animations.
Personally I would've started with a much smaller concept, like an arena brawler or somesuch to get the combat right because good combat might as well be rocket science, for one game that gets it right you have hundreds that don't. I don't know what the actual stance from the devs is on combat + sex is, the official one is that violence and sex shouldn't be mixed but that's required by patreon anyway, they have no qualms about terminating your account if the """trust and safety""" morons feel like it. Still, I think that sex + combat is one of the easiest ways to bring the two together, if you have sex scenes as scripted events or based on relationship progress (think Mass Effect or Dragon Age) it feels tacked on. The main draw of games is that they're an interactive medium, so scripted stuff doesn't really cut it.
