Downloading from pirate sites such as this one is never 100% safe. There have been cases where people linked to malicious files from this site, and it was discovered later. And sometimes malicious ads on a download site make you download a malicious file instead of the one you wanted. (Though in that case it typically has the wrong size and is a .exe instead of a .zip file.) You are right that it is theoretically possible that an actual virus is downloaded later by an otherwise clean game. However, that's a degree of sophistication that seems to be rare because low effort tricks are successful enough. I guess this is more something to worry about in connection with files or links you are sent personally e.g. by email, and only if you are likely to be personally targeted either for political reasons or because you have access rights to something a hacker is interested in.
