This shouldn't be marked as abandoned. He posted on Discord in February that it's still being worked on which is well within the time limit for the abandoned tag
Correct! This March, 16th dolfe67 shared this post from the dev's discord, proving they are
"Still here - still at it."
So this game isn't abandoned at all, except the dev themselves (Capella) is going to confirm it explicitely here (or elsewhere)! The tag should be removed asap to avoid further misleading rumors.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
are there one hundred percent sure has the developer confirmed it

that's so unfair I never even got to spend time with my favorite girl like at all

I never even did anything with the other girls in the game because I was waiting patiently.for her
I said it's not abandoned. You'll still be able to spend time with your favorite girl

He should have posted monthly wallpapers on patreon, it seems to work for other games to avoid the abandoned tag
Updates on any platform is enough to avoid the abandoned tag. I don't know why they'd put it on this game when they're totally okay with some other games I won't name not being marked abandoned because the dev pops in every 6 months to say they're still working on it with absolutely nothing to show for it

I hope you all are right. I really enjoyed Mad World, and I was looking forward to the MC's eventual relationship with Robbie, who is apparently on the slowest of slow burn paths. So far, it is not even clear the MC is interested in her, although I am sure she will be an LI eventually. She has definitely gotten the short end of the stick in this VN up to now. She doesn't have the hottest model, but there is something about her that seems more real that most of the other characters.

I guess it depends on the individual mods of each forum. Offcuts took like 3 years before it was marked abandoned. I think the mods don't want to be too specific what criteria will cause games to get marked abandoned so devs won't try to game the system. Communication by the dev that they are supposedly "working" on the game, is meaningless and impossible to prove one way or the other, so why not ignore it. I think a simple time limit would be better: 8 months no updates = "on hold", 1 year no updates = "abandoned". If a dev doesn't like it, they are free to release more often.

Why must the good ones get abandoned? Can the talented developers actually finish what they start please? There's too many good games now that are getting abandoned, or just milked for money, when in reality, they might as well be abandoned.

I don't know which case Mad World falls into. Perhaps none, and it will continue. But unfortunately, many, many games get abandoned here, probably the majority.

There are three main reasons, I think.

1) The game just doesn't make enough money. If a dev is spending 60 hours a month working on his game, and the game only makes $250 a month or so, that is less than minimum wage in many countries. So, unless it is a labor of love, the dev just doesn't need money, or the dev is from a country where a few hundred US dollars a month is substantial, many devs call it quits after the donations plateau at a few hundred a month. Maybe they create a new name and try another game. Perhaps they focus on another type of job.

2) The game makes too much money. After a game hits the few thousand a month mark, many devs, those without any personal integrity, start to think that why should they work their butts off and finish their game, just to have the donations immediately cease once the game is finished? They realize that they can drag out the release cycle to 6 months, 8 months, more than a year, or even forever, and still make almost as much monthly income as if they were working steadily on the game. This is the issue with the Patron model. It gives devs a strong incentive to start their games to get donors, but once they hit a solid level, it encourages devs to drag it out as long as possible (otherwise known as milking).

3) This last reason is all too common, unfortunately. Computer types, aren't always the healthiest people, either physically or mentally, or even both, so things happen in someones life that makes creating a game, very low priority. Health conditions, family problems, work problems, war in their home countries, etc. There are many reasons why a dev might stop working on their game. It isn't their main job, which they need to pay the rent and bills every month, so they have to work whether they feel like it or not. Creating games is more of a side hobby that makes a little extra money, so any problems in a devs life, and it is often the first thing to go.

I beg to differ. Out of 11,158 results for games on the Latest Updates page, only 2,301 are marked Abandoned. That's only 20.6%. In contrast 5,210 are tagged Complete and 211 are On Hold. So by far the majority of games are still being worked on.

Meh, Dev fanboys were saying the exact same thing for weeks after reluctant archon was abandoned. His last post on Patreon was in November and the last discord message in "news" was like some time in April this year? so to my knowledge, they haven't updated anyone...anywhere for at least two months. Its 2022, I could literally tweet Elon Musk in a fraction of that time and get a reply so IMO this 100% deserves the abandoned tag. If they don't have two minutes to spare to let people know about the development of their game then Chances are they don't have the time to actually develop the game. I could literally be building a rocket to space and if you asked me I could find two minutes to spare. The title of the most recent Patreon post was " Closing this chapter in more ways than one." Who could have known how foreboding that statement was. I really hope this one comes back as I am pretty sure I left a 5 star review I will have to re-write but I certainly don't have any hope for that happening. This game has been on the rocks ever since the dev started talking about adding free roam and sandbox and the second they did I knew it was heading here, no surprise whatsoever but still a huge shame none the less to see another fantastic story be brought to its knee's during the development.

Well, if it gets abandoned, that'd be pretty disappointing. I can't remember too much of the game as it's been a while, but I do remember liking it.

If you'll allow me to play Devil's advocate here for a second.

If there are 11,158 games and 5,210 are tagged Complete, that means 46.6% of games are finished.
That leaves us with 5,948 games unfinished. (abandoned/in development/on hold)
Which means 38.6% of unfinished games are tagged Abandoned. Still not a majority, but a sizable increase in the figure.

That's not counting games tagged Complete which actually weren't. Such as the dev hastily tacked an "ending" onto a partially completed project and moved on. Nor does it count games which lack an Abandoned tag, but effectively are. Such as those with >1 year with no update to content, but the dev is still communicating.

I'm certain one could find even more wiggle room in the figures if they wanted to do an in depth (ratios by content/type/length/complexity/rating) look at the metrics. I however, am lazy AF.

If you're going to look at games that are possibly abandoned but aren't tagged you will also have to look for games that are tagged abandoned but really aren't. Grimhelm for example is famous for dropping a first demo, then three months later dropping a second, and then going radio silent for 12-18 months before coming back with the completed game. Even if you give yourself a margin of +/- 5% it's still not a majority.

Another reason that games get the "aboned" tag is if the Dev reaches out and tells the Mods. Hate to think that's what happened here but it is a possibility.

I'm not surprised to see this game abandoned honestly, not sure why but it's always the good ones, the story driven one's that gets abandoned while the porn fuck fest games reign Supreme. I guess it shouldn't come as a shock tho, not sure why but most people play these games just for a fap(like have they not heard of porn?) I mean not judging anyone who does that it's just sad for the devs who don't get much support because their games aren't about fucking your mother. They put a lot of effort in telling a story, an actual story not a porn script and end up with little to no support. Not sure if that's what happened here but this really was one of the good ones, sad to see it get abandoned.

Yeah, it seems I make the mistake of actually liking story driven games instead of incestuous harem fuck fests. Since I started playing these games/found this website there've been a lot of good/great games abandoned for various reasons while some really average and contrived incest games keep chugging along. It's disappointing and has killed a lot of my interest, main reason I'm not here as much as I used to be.

It's so disappointing to see this one got the abandoned tag. I think it had a lot of potential. I've noticed that the dev has been lurking around here the last couple of days and has yet to confirm or deny if this one has indeed been abandoned. I guess that means it has most likely has been abandoned. Such a shame.
