You realize that scene was there from the first time the game ended right ? so he didnt get salty after he had to release the new patch... he was already a bit upset from months of "we want Nikki" clamoring from everyone...
well except that one salty poster that gate-keeps every single thread and hates anyone that disagrees with her opinion, and fights tooth and nail to keep most games the way old japanese eroge are (one girl per route... EWWWW).

When she was still his sister without needing a patch I think it was fine if Taylor and Nikki being together was off the table but when she just became his best friend and stuff that came after I think that plan should've changed, didn't care for the whole Molly or no one thing either, Molly was also dragged out far too long, should've been somewhere like in the middle where your actions mean more and also influence Molly's path to a greater degree. College freshmen getting into a monogamous relationship and married is kind of boring. Besides that, everyone knows those sheltered types like Molly are often the ones who end up doing the craziest shit in college.

maybe I’m being unfair here, but it doesn’t take long to work out what people are going to expect when you look at every other “my sister” game, that the primary goal in them is to be with the sister.
Exactly because of that patreon post, and seeing how it affected him, reading that lines were rather salty, than being self-comedic.
Sure he could've just moved on, but he was also in a no-win situation. Either he moves, and gets the shit reputation for good, making his future endeavor as a crowdfunded developer much harder, or he decides to clean up the shitstorm as much as he can. Don't get me wrong, the fact that he manned up, admitted his screw up, and made the fix is something I respect deeply. But it's also something that was a must to do, rather than a should do. This also adds to that feeling I mentioned.
It's not something I'd ride his ass for, just how it felt, and I do feel it should've been left out of the game, and not let it create yet another opening to attack him in a frisky situation anyway. Just like the political statement caused a before, it feels like he repeated the same mistake.

This update screams like someone who watched there patreon numbers drop since the last ending pissed so many people off and needs to find a way to save face in the community. I think this is a far better end to the game, but still think he did a lot of people dirty with how he ended it the first time.

I honestly think that SOME of the reactions Sumo got were deserved.
Let's be honest. His story wasn't good, him avoiding the storylines people wanted (and likely paid him for) was ridiculous. Sure, if his description had a note that "In this game, while there are taboo aspects, don't expect to get on with your family", then he could've had a reason to be pissed off at the "entitled haters", but as far as I saw, that was not the case.
Sumo went through so much trouble to set up taboo situations, it was clear that the sister also had a craving for the MC, but not having a payoff is basically like turning you into a cuckold. Sure, it may not an issue for some, but it's niche even for this forum.. I'd say that traps might be a lot more popular than cuckolds on this forum, but just the point was that it's a very specific niche to cockblock the whole taboo side in a story that seems to obviously be heading into the taboo destination. People here do tend to enjoy their porn games, and if you try to ram us in the ass with that "twist", try and lube us up first.
Hence it was horrendous situation of overpromises and under delivering.
I don't think there were too many "death threats" or harassment campaigns going on against him. Don't think I saw a "Change.org" petition either, so I think that the harassment wasn't as bad as some people seem to try and claim.
I think Sumo might've got a good wake up call here, and maybe he will know how to set better expectations in the future. As someone who makes content on the internet, hearing "feedback" (Or well, angry comments) is something you will learn how to deal with. You can shut them out and maybe still be successful, or maybe you might be able to improve in setting expectations (or maybe craft your story in a way that the angry ppl wouldn't be so angry). I think that this update was a step in the right direction.

The only mention of death threats in this thread is from you. I mentioned he got a lot of hate, which he did, people still seem to be sore about the original endings, and hey no way to make another first impression, so I get it. But the discussion isn't on how things are better or worse, it's still talking about the stuff that isn't even in the game anymore.
Maybe it's me but I am surprised that there is more discussion about endings that are no longer part of the game than the actual endings that have been added, how the rushing to the finale is no longer a problem, how there are choices with the MC about more than just Nikki, about how the entire early part of the game was redone with better graphics, none of that.
And the whole "had to" argument doesn't make sense, or that he just dropped this to shut people up. This is a MASSIVE update, bigger than any other he has done, he could have easily done a quick Nikki ending in a couple of weeks, but he did more than that, a lot more. Would it have been better if this was what was released initially? Sure. But that's not saying a thing about the new content.

I mean, I remember Sumo explaining over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again that Sister Dearest would not be endgame. I mean people could have felt free reading that, accepting it and moving on instead of throwing temper tantrums.

mostly, it was the gatekeepers giving people crap-least that's how it was for me and a few others.
So all the talk about the game and what all changed, for a new comer: how is the game now/what routes are there? I recall seeing this before and seeing that the sister was more like your wingman than an available option, but that was before the game was done and apparently the new patch added a bunch of stuff.
