Quetzzz, the problem with your focus on Mrs. Sollain is that in no way is she a focus of this game. Her reasons for being there are to get a sex scene at the beginning of the game and so that the MC can lose his virginity before entering college. For those who actually like her, there is an opportunity (entirely optional) to hook up with her later in the game. Taylor (MC) also mentions Mrs. Sollain in a conversation with Nikki (sister) early on. That's it!

To my mind, that is insufficient evidence to make a judgment of any kind about this game.

By the way, the MC does have opportunities to make meaningful mistakes along the way. In fact, the expression, "Never stick your dick in crazy!", may have been derived from this game. :)

It's interesting to me that the sister might have had a hand in it. I'm intrigued. If a repeat performance with Sollain is avoidable, I'll happily go that route.
Well not sure that Nicky had any part there, but she does have a part in his getting more out of his shell and believing in himself. Do not want to spoil too much if do decide to play the game though.

Edit: @ Walter Yeah it is not like Nicky is the best judge of character either and may not be the best/safest teacher even if all can end well. :p

I think that's fair. Though I'd like to point out that my issue isn't with Sollain per se, but with what it says about the MC: "I don't know if this is a level of pathos he can crawl back from."
He's so needy and sex-starved that he doesn't think twice about jumping her when she offers. But you're right, I should get over myself in this case. (And probably many more cases in the future.)

To my mind, that is insufficient evidence to make a judgment of any kind about this game.
I'm really not trying to judge the game in its entirety, I should've phrased that better. It was meant as an invitation for fans of the game to tell me how wrong I was, not as a blanket statement.

Ah, sorry, then I misunderstood. And yes, I will play through it at a later date. The next game on my list is 'A Moment of Bliss', after I'm done with 'Life With Mary'.

Ah you might have to forgive that MC of Bliss also a few things, but then if played Petals you already know that :) First episode of third part of that series was released recently, wish next part would be sooner, but it is what it is . :)

Yeah, I actually liked both the MC and Petal a lot in the first few chapters, but after the videocall with Bliss (chapter 3), their relationship and character seemed to shift. The MC became weaker (at least in certain aspects), and Petal grabbed too much power (IMO). I still think Lockheart did an outstanding job at characterization and framing, despite me ending up disliking them both (again, in parts). I actually suspect this regression was deliberate, so that Bliss could have a bigger impact on the MC in her story.

I've written an extensive review of it, based on 8500 words of notes. (I know many people here will think I'm crazy, but it's something I enjoy doing, and enhances my experience of a game.)

Well I hope you enjoy it. :) I would say he more surrenders to the inevitable and part two does give some reasons, which may feel more or less contrived to you. Actions go bit faster though in second series as Petal did prepare him already some and Bliss is less his little girl. :p

I think you mean Petal's secret? Lockheart read my notes and advised me to pick the 'transhumanist' path for Bliss... Which makes me think my guess is right:

Sticking your dick in crazy is fun until they come back with a knife to cut it off.

Alright, I'm considering playing some more. Though, please answer me this first; Does the MC, at any point, introspect about what happened with Sollain? I think introspection is needed for character growth, to frame why he's doing what he's doing. What lessons he's learned from past mistakes. If he even thinks Sollain was a mistake, which I hope he does.
From what people in another thread have said, I suspect I need the mindset of watching an R rated "Ernest Goes to College". I'm not sure if I'm able to distance myself from the MC that much, to laugh at him.

I don't agree with "more often than not", the amount of AVN that had a wet-blanket MC at the start and end of it, is ridiculous. I love character growth in an AVN, most don't have it.
Character growth is about making bad choices and learning from them, the number of women he ends up boning isn't really a metric. So many MCs bone every woman and learn nothing.

This has always been a weird saying to me... If there are 1000 books to pick from, and you can't possibly read them all, why wouldn't you use the cover (specially the backside of it) to filter them?
I'd even argue that I read the cover (the front page), then read the first few pages, and found it wanting.
But, like I said above, I am willing to give it another go.

(tagging DA22 and Penfold Mole in case they like to participate here)
Try this mod, you can choose not to have sex with Mrs. Sollain.

I think we're in total agreement on that. :D
Still, I rate the game highly. I might not've liked where they ended up, the dynamic they were having... But the writing, characterization and framing was there to support it.

Do not forget about that part at start that yes he resists, but his resistance partly is more about hurting her and what he sees as her wanting something she might regret in a few years as that he is not deep down wanting to be loved by his daughter and does find her attractive, where the loss of his dream to be a successful entertainer and broken up relation with Rose also plays a part. In part two Petal plays way less of a major part in the story and it is more him also accepting this is what he wants as well.

Could you two please take this to DM or, at the very least, to the thread of the game it belongs to?
