This ending is the absolute bleakest and most nihilistic way to end the story.
Nothing ever matters, the "choices" you made in the end just hammer this idea home.
The MC ended the journey just as alone, confused and depressed as in the beginning
You were repeatedly told that you need every one of your girls in your harem for your ultimate choice, but you ended up forgetting them all, leaving you to face the end alone and scared.
It is not your fault, though; it is just that the universe collapses right into you. All your struggles and effort, happiness and sadness, love and hatred, are all inconsequential and ineligible in the ultimate fate of the universe.|
This game reminds me of Philip K Dick's short story "Faith of Our Fathers", in which the MC in the story, after also learning that nothing he had done ever mattered, got one last night of human comfort as his body was melting away. "Faith of Our Fathers" has left me questioning the reality and the purpose of life, and I suspect I will ask myself the same questions in the following days.
Does anything truly matter?
