This game reminds me of Philip K Dick's short story "Faith of Our Fathers", in which the MC in the story, after also learning that nothing he had done ever mattered, got one last night of human comfort as his body was melting away. "Faith of Our Fathers" has left me questioning the reality and the purpose of life, and I suspect I will ask myself the same questions in the following days.

Does anything truly matter?

I am the actual author of this game. Please be aware it is a slow burn. A visual novel first and a porn game second. You also don't get penalized for choosing everyone as this is a harem game of sorts. I hope you enjoy playing as this has been a true labor of love. I've included a link in case you are interested in supporting development of On Distant Shores. If not, I completely understand, but I would love if you would share any honest feedback in the comments.

I have been following this game for some time, the story had so many things happening and a constant influx of new information so it was entertaining to watch it unfold since i enjoy lore in games even if it was confusing at times. I liked the girls a lot but we didn't have much time with many, especially since there were plenty girls so i imagine it is a difficult task whenever there are so many characters.
But the ending...
I won't lie it does make sense in retrospect, why things were so all over the place i guess, there was no real world to make sense so literally anything could exist in this world, and all the end of times situation and the role Mc has in it was explained, but i can't say it was satisfying.
In terms of personal preference i don't think i really enjoy such a bleak and empty ending, it really gives a terrible feeling, but that is preference so i don't think it's a valid critic.
However how the end unfolds i believe it does give margin to critic, the final choices were absolutely meaningless, all that build up and conflict regarding the ultimate fate of the story is not really relevant because we don't see it, and i believe this is the most dissapointing thing of the ending.
You could make the story less painful by showing the copy in the new world, interacting with the girls, you could make it bleaker by ending with a black screen saying "but you never saw that" however not showing the consequences of the final choices is in my opinion a HUGE mistake and gives and empty feeling different from what i believe was intended, not from the fate of the Mc but from frustration of the lack of impact the choices made by the player had.

Damn it I thought this story would be the MC overcoming his depression and being a good influence to the people around him. It's almost as disappointing as the Star Wars sequel trilogy

Anything, simply anything instead of a black "this is all" screen, will blunt the feeling of pain and emptiness much, but it would lose the (mose likely) accidental effect of this overwhelming dose of fatalism and bleakness by giving your choices a meaning, then what is left is just a bland rushed ending, instead of this gloriously provoking and polarizing mess

I started playing this recently and thinking about making a gallery mod for the game. Question for the longtime players. Would a walkthrough be needed too? So far it seems choices only have a very minor affect or are very obvious and the game is mostly kinetic.

Wonderful ideas! Great setup! This game is a lot like chess for MC: we do not know how or when some girls will interact with MC or dissapear in this story, so we do need a comprehensive walkthrough about:
- when is this or that girl becomes a Li?
- what are the choices throughout the game to keep a girl out of our path?
- what impact do our choices have on the overall path of this or that girl?

Making the photos from the phone open up on the full screen would be a wonderful addition, if at all possible.

Question for the longtime players. Would a walkthrough be needed too?

There are key moments we have little comprehension about the impact of our choices.
For example, I dunno how I managed to have a picture missing in my phone, when all through my playthough I was careful to always respond to all the mesages from the girls who texted me, so logically I should have all the pictures and not any of them missing.
Any clarity would be welcome.

I really enjoyed this vn. I actually enjoyed the ending as well, it's definitely more of an ending that most of the vn's on this forum. Truly an unique and entertaining journey.

My one complaint is having 3 or 4 choices at the end, choices that had been baited and given great importance only to be chosen without knowing the effect they have.
