Looking in from the outside, it appeared they were the reason the argument was "going in circles". I'll just say: "death of the author" is a real thing, but there is also authorial intention and direction. To me, It's quite obvious that GIL and TD are trying to portray a story where absolutes are thrown out of the window straight away, and circumstances for the characters are built from piles of compromises. Given that, It's quite baffling to me that anyone may approach the story, especially after going through it, with the "men are all pigs" / "women are all sluts" mindframe. If anyone does, the game is not for him, I'd say. And yes, it's a porn game, and a fantasy, but this doesn't mean you can't engage it with a modicum of empathy - which doesn't automatically mean to justify every character action depicted in it, but at the least try to understand it.

Every single character is self aware. Just some hide it better.

The story is a study on family, social mores, self-realization and their interplay. The easy way out is to dismiss motivation in any of these characters with a singular motive. Fuck, I still haven't even gotten to the new shit yet, I'm doing a full blind replay and MC just left the karaoke bar... it's not like Mina... fuck there's like 20 renders with text that show what she truly wants going all the way back to the coffee bar... omg siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh chill, we're all chillllll lol

By simplistic binary view; I mean you have a similiar kneejerk reaction to people disagreeing or reacting negatively to your tone. Unfortunately for that view, I don't fit that stereotype at all, without getting too political, I'm no friend of the rightwing-nutjobs or trumpers or all that stuff, I tend to be fairly moderate in politics and agree with dems on some things and repubs on others.

To be fair, when someone cuts up and cherry picks your post in response to make a personal attack that leads with 'you people', it's clear you're not dealing with someone looking for honest engagement, you're dealing with someone who sees you as just a collection of said buzzwords.

Those people do not get the kiddie glove response.

One of the reasons I've enjoyed these back and forths on this game over the past few thread pages is the variety of viewpoints expressed. Saying something like "someone needs to be called out on their bullshit" attempts to strengthen a "us vs them" coalition. It's an incubation of the worst parts of reddit and twitter. Do I agree with lubering back there? No, I didn't, and I expressed as much - but he had different views from antoniomontana who had different views from you who had different views from me, so on and so forth. That's what a healthy forum looks like (as long as everyone's polite).

Ok ok, not whores but too slutty girls, maybe I used the word "whores" in relation to Mina and Hana in the wrong way. And I enjoy the game exactly what I expected, but as always it wants more. For Mina, I’ll say that it would be better if she remained a nice girl for romantic relations without obsession with sex pleasure, this would distinguish her from other girls, and so she is practically no different. Well, many people like Mina not because of her character, but only because of her cute face, if she could look like, for example, Ian's nanny Alice, would Mina be so popular?

I think she is not slutty enough.

I know we are getting a few threesomes with her but I wonder how far we can push it. And how far will she go? Can we get her to put on a show in the club? Finished playing it just now but kinda underwhelmed. The technically legal sex show premise is running very thin at this point, and I thought it was the most boring part of this game to begin with. All the interesting things in this story are peripheral. Making pretty girls feel uncomfortable appeals to some combination of the barely pubescent, the very old and the ill-begotten. In fact the orgy in its popular conception and as represented here - men in high places molesting beautiful damsels in distress - is an envy-fuelled middle-class wetdream. The real Dionysian orgies were ordained by women and the participants were the excluded in Greek society - women, slaves, cripples, foreigners and outlaws. They weren't explosions of strength and beauty but festivals worshipping the paradoxical power of weakness. Their spiritual heirs were not Satanic cults or Fifty Shades of Grey but the radically Christian peasants' revolts of the 1300s which reached their apotheosis in the French Revolution.

The real sex parties of the leets are less mommy roleplay or raw octupus mukbang, and more mutually satisfying handcarved-tabletop missionary with a few performers present to spice things up. And as I've heard, nowadays many of them are embracing the principle of female ordination (men can only attend if accompanied by a female partner, only women can approach men). There is no element of the suffering or the dissolution that becomes lightning and dynamite. It's basically the daily life of a rich person, plus sex and mock-secrecy. Jolly good fun if you're the one doing it; vapid and boring if you're looking in from the outside. Kubrick had it exactly right: masks, expensive hookers and drugs, vanilla sex. Eyes Wide Shut is primarily a satire of the spineless middle-class puritanism that vicariously enjoys "excessive" wealth even as it denounces it, which is spelled out right at the end, in the cloying pop-philosophical exchange between Cruise and Kidman in the toy store. Whatever evil/ugliness there might be in such situations is dialectical, existing only in their relation to an absent other either unacknowledged or, out of respect for the fashion/custom of "wokeness", ceremonially honored in abstract and strategically self-recriminating terms. But in either case - effectively located out of sight and mind across the streets, highways and oceans.

Anyway, if it were up to me this update would be the conclusion. And the big audience event from the last update would have been climactic and final.

Only part that stood out for me was the scene with PC and mad scientist chick in the bar. That was some legit MKULTRA activation bullshit while also managing to retain the campy tone and straight-edgy social commentary of the rest of the story. In fact the mad scientist chick and her sugar-grampy are now my favourite characters and I look forward to a lot more of them; but that'd probably require a different game.

I definitely did not enjoy your disdain for our work, but I'm extremely glad about some of your observations. They are very precise and on point, I'll say that much, even in my humble role as advisor to the author in script matters. But you see, one can only write about what they know, or what they percieve is true. In that regard, I tend to stay away from pontificating about historical facts after becoming familiar with the works of Anatoly Fomenko, among others, but to each their own. I'll just say your casual dissection of Eyes Wide Shut was enlightening. Thank you for your insights. I'm sorry we did not meet your expectations.
