I've got two minor complaints. I'm sure I'll still love the game even if Weird does the absolute opposite of what I'd like to see, but sometimes it's good to vent at length like a freaking madman.
#1: Power/evolution level increasingly seems to trump everything else and that's a little boring.
Superhuman has in my opinion the best fight scenes in any VN and it isn't even close. If I had to name my absolute favorites, I'd go with Michael vs Oscar, the MC vs Danica, Michael vs Leigong, and the MC vs Valravn. One thing these fights all have in common is that they're all mismatches of some sort. The MC and Michael have to strategize, get creative, and show great resolve and perseverance to get the win against what are basically stronger opponents. They outwit and outhustle because they can't outpower. A big part of what makes those battles so enjoyable is not so much the outcome as it is seeing just how our guys manage to pull off the improbable after setbacks and much suffering.
On the other hand, fights where the tide turns because someone evolves and gets a sudden surge of power seem a little gimmicky/overly convenient and less interesting to me. I sadly even have to include the Klaus fight in my lower tier fight list even though it gave us some important information about the process of evolution and the flashback scene is absolutely amazing storytelling.
Level 5 superhumans (not to mention the Numbered) seem so powerful that it is essentially impossible for them to be defeated by someone who isn't a near peer. I can accept that the MC can't beat Ella until he gets much stronger because she is such an integral part of the story that she can't just vanish like Jake or Danica, but it's equally hard for me to imagine the MC defeating any of the captains or Nico any time soon. The power gap between them is almost unfathomably immense at this point. We saw just how poorly Duncan fared against Ella even though he is just about the hardest working, most powerful level 3 imaginable. Even that one tough monster from the last update would've been far too difficult for the MC without Nico's help likely regardless of how he approached the fight.
When the MC and his friends have caught up evolution-wise, hopefully we'll get back to strategy, creativity, and perseverance winning fights, but in the near term this seems like the game's Age of Power.
#2: Porn and harem logic gets in the way of the game's characterization at times.
I think Superhuman has generally great character development. Everyone in the game has a backstory and a personality. They generally do things that make sense for who they are as people. Some like Ella have rather complex motives and even villains like Klaus tend to retain a measure of their humanity.
That's why I find it a little jarring that the MC's ladies tend to be more or less OK with his slutty ways. Really, what I would like to see is a range of reactions based on who the character is. It makes total sense that Liz wouldn't care too much about fidelity because she doesn't care very much about most things. Tiffany is the complete opposite of a romantic. Angelina certainly doesn't need to become a jealous yandere because her relationship with the MC has always been on the casual side. On the other hand, it would make total sense to me that Alice, Amber, Emily, and Mia might want something more than to just be another member of the harem given their personalities. With Alice, it made sense initially she wouldn't mind the MC sleeping around given she was so reluctant to become the MC's girlfriend because she's spread so thin and isn't the most romantic type, but I think it would make sense for her attitude to change now that the relationship has grown more serious.
I'd love to see some of the characters demand fidelity and get furious if they find out the MC's been cheating. It would add a completely different element to the game. Imagine a faithful MC going on romantic dates with his special someone or an unfaithful one trying to cover up his tracks to avoid being discovered. I think it'd make the characters seem more real, give the relationships more depth, and be fun as well.
I understand the feeling but disagree at the same time, if i had to explain in a few words i think the things you pointed out could very easily be problems in many stories (and often are) but they are done very well here.
1. Regarding the evolutions:
You used Klaus fight so to use it as example, Mc fought Klaus before and he was demolished, he had absolutely no chance against him, at that moment an evolution didn't save him, why ? i think because it wasn't earned, he fought like hell and gave his best but he still needed a lot of work and improvement to earn the evolution (though we can argue he was saved by plot convenience but now we are talking about evolution).
The second fight he worked on his strategy, employed the best he could and actually prevailed however Klaus used an unearned gimmick to increase his power (through the serum) and the fight scalated to a different phase, Mc once again had no means to win but this time strategy wouldn't make a difference, the enemy was just too strong, he needed more power to even the odds and he earned that with his effort.
The fight against Deryl was the same, and Mc's progress is clear, he starts the fight not knowing what to expect, the enemy has all the advantage with multiple heads with powers specially chosen to fuck him up and through strategy, skill and good use of his resources Mc wins. Then Deryl evolves, Mc is totally done, if he keeps fighting on the same level he has no chance at all, so after earning the power he evolves and fights on the same level.
To compare, do we need to see Michael fighting the 2nd after Leigong to know he already deserved to become superhuman ? no because he already earned, Or Alice had to win the fight against the Chimera after all she did, with all odds against her to know she deserved to evolve ? no because we saw everything she did before.
I for example am completely against the idea that evolution level determines a win in a fight, because that would be the total opposite of how things have been until now, with effort, skill, strategy deciding fights, but the way i understand there is a threshold on how much that makes a difference when the power levels are just too far apart, and at least to me the story makes a great work on showing how even at disavantage characters can still pull through, and how this earns them an increase in power when they really need it.
2. Mc's harem.
Relationships are... messy, you don't even need to include thind parties for them to break apart, so yes it is expected that banging most of the female cast would bring trouble however what all fiction needs, instead of being realistic, is to be plausible, that means ok your story has an undead dragon but why the fuck your protagonist stood there screaming at the thing ? because THAT doesn't make sense (yes season 8 of Game of Thrones still makes me mad).
Plausible means that even if i don't think this would happen i can accept because the story was made in a way that least on that situation it makes sense, so how all girls being accepting of an Mc who sleeps around can make sense, to me because of how their relationships were presented.
Examples: Alice, as you said is not confident on being girlfriend material, she is more worried about being abandoned given her personnal history than her boyfriend fucking someone else, does it mean she won't ever be upset about it ? No and i imagine Mc will have a talk about with her about their relationship in the future to iron things out, however as we know now the idea of sharing her man is something she can enjoy, there you have reasonable explanations.
Amber and Liz, if you are romancing both know how much you did to help them, so makes sense they are accepting at least with each other, they also showed how they had this childdood dream of finding their prince together, it may sound silly but to fall in love with the same man knowing how he makes both happy is a powerfull feeling specially considering they are twins.
Emily if you are also with Christie knows Mc an her at least have something physical going on (maybe even more), she also doesn't see herself as being a girlfriend yet wans to be with Mc, sharing him with her best friends considering how close they are (she wants to help Ella even knowing how much shit she did) makes sense.
If anything i'm glad that last update had a scene like Emily talking with Mc about it because this is how i personally want the harem theme to be treated, people talking about it instead of going jealous, distant, bitter, to treat realistically means bringing all the negativity into the situation and if that's the case i would rather see an idealized version where it's not about drama but about building something where everyone is happy to be in the situation they are.
