Yeah, RL work got in the way. It's hard to say if things will change any time soon for the dev, but with COVID generally and now especially the delta variant, I wouldn't hold my breath for any of these games that go on hold. I still hope for their continuation, but I generally just get slightly wistful and then move on.
That's really one of the hardest parts of this type of thing, I would assume. The big things that often shut down a great game that is making a lot of headway seem to be family emergency, illness / death, or day job demands. So the time someone once had to work on a project is swallowed up with whatever has demanded more attention in their personal lives, making continuing a game a serious challenge.
Sometimes they can still squeeze in a bit here and there and keep their vision / dream alive, and sometimes they can't. I really feel for all of the devs affected in these ways. I can't be easy to have to throw your arms up in the air and leave a passion you have.
