Delve...

Deep dive...

Are you talking plot or subliminally flirting?

And here was lil ole me, behaving herself.

See, it's all her.

Excuse me a minute while I polish this glowing halo.
Just rug in general.

Call it a carpet clearance sale, first cum first served.
The one on the bed is a bit too tall.

Not ginger or freckly enough either.
I do try to behave but it's impossible.

I've got Notty dropping towels and talking about being wet, i've got you guys wanting Becca spanked by Jane .... how the hell am i supposed to be a good girl when i'm surrounded by so many comments that make it so easy to make puns/innuendo's/jokes/just be rude?

It's impossible Dev, utterly impossible.
Someone get this midget an amazonianesque woman or we'll never hear the end of it...
Isn't Chris enough ?

I don't want to be a downer, but after lurking this thread for a while I think I should let you know that IMO this thread is quite intimidating for people curious about the game. There are hundreds upon hundreds of new posts every day (making it very difficult to track anything in it) and it reads mostly like a chat between a few people that know each other pretty well and have their own inside jokes. I really do think it's awesome you enjoy this degree of interactivity, but at the same time I think it's counterproductive towards new players to do it in the game thread.

While having a developer as reachable and engaged with the community is great, maybe this is not the best platform to do it in this particular way. Perhaps a discord server would fit better to have this kind of exchanges and this thread could be used in a more concise, less back and forth way that would make it easier for more people to follow and participate in the discussions.

I hope I didn't come up too much as a killjoy, because I love both the game and the speculations around it!
Slider, thank you for this and my apologies for the delay in getting back to you due to being away for a few days. But before I respond there are two things I'd like to say.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to make such a constructive set of points. It's appreciated.

Secondly, and more importantly, you say that this thread is quite intimidating - and I dare say you're right. You knew, for you're an intelligent man, that offering a critique of the thread behaviour could well result in some negative comments and yet you still did it. For sure, you did it in a polite and constructive manner, but we all know full well how some people on other threads can react. Yet despite that, you did it anyway. You could have kept silent - yet you didn't. That took some degree of courage and for that I admire you. Thank you.

As to the point itself, it's a tricky one. Yes, it does veer off to the chatty sometimes and I'll confess I'm as much to blame for that as anyone. Indeed, I suspect the chatty nature of the thread is largely down to me for the tone is set at the top, no?

My take on it though is threefold.

Firstly, chattiness aside, this is the best place for me to tap into feedback into what is and isn't working with H5. I don't mean plot points etc for those are set. But patreon and discord would only really let me see what people who liked the game thought. Now that's all very nice of course, but what about peeps who didn't like it? Why? Mebbe, for this is my first game, I'm doing something wrong? Also with the user base of these pirate scamps it also allows me to see (for I am a tiny dev on her own) how things such as the easter egg mechanic works. I'll confess I thought the Trisha one was easy - I was wrong. So from a perspective of tapping into the widest possible user base it's fantastically useful.

You make a valid point in respect of discord tho. The trouble is I just don't like it. It has that "text" message feel about it and having recently joined another discord channel I have to say it's not a comms method I like. It has that "reply now" instant feel to it which I just wouldn't be able to stay on top of especially given the size of my little game. Someone later in this thread remarked that this felt like an old school forum where one was using an "email" format to make points and I concur. That format I can handle, being able to salt and pepper responses or, indeed like this one, reply at length as required. This does not negate your point however, it merely reflects my own preference and ability to be able to respond.

But none of that addresses the traffic issue. I took some time yesterday travelling back to have a peek at some other threads of similar size. I wasn't impressed. The content was largely "Update?"; "Save Plz"; "Dev is shit"; "Dev is great!"; "Who's best girl?"; "How do I fuck...". No. No thanks. So, yes, this thread is intimidating, on that I agree. But it's also good humoured, informative, (incredibly when Ava behaves herself it even largely sticks to the game!) and I like to feel welcoming. If I spot a new player/poster I do my best to make them feel welcome and, although perhaps limited in it's effectiveness, I do try to mitigate the issue as best as I can.

So, is this a perfect thread? No. Of course not. But it's, in my opinion now of course, the best thread on the forum for both players and dev.

Having said that tho, your point has some validity and I will think on. For example...

Thank you so much for taking the time to make your point known. It really is appreciated and, indeed from my perspective, admired.

as I myself have felt a little overwhelmed a time or two. ;)
Try responding to it all! :)

Well now, if we could have some of the crew finest wear the N7 armor... ;)
*has done that!*
Chris made a great N7 :)
*beams*

On the one hand I agree a little. Seeing "good night everyone"-posts adds nothing for me and I feel the discussion is often a bit off-topic.
Oddly enough I do that for a reason (I know, right?!). I get a lot of DM's when I pop on here. Signing off is my way of letting peeps know that I'm not on and therefore won't/can't reply to them. *hates to be thought of as ill-mannered*

even if the person asking for a full save might not have been happy about the answer.
But...but...they got their own unique render!

Want to know what makes me mad?

That cave scene.

Nearly a year i've spoken to Notty for now. I thought we got along, I thought we were friends.

What does she go and do?

Take the one thing in verse i'm terrified of and make it bigger.
Boobs?

But my Rah-Rah is special! :)
Mine certainly is *and rather worn out too!*

So am I after a certain render I saw recently.
*bites lip thoughtfully*

Is this the "required" (aka trope-filled) "accidental nudity scene" for a new game you're writing? "My Life With a Game Dev" - I'm sure it'll do well. :p
Hrm...*looks thoughtful*..

Y'know if I needed a silly filler one month, I could do something with that idea. *sticks a pin in it*

After seeing the comment about the tone of the thread possibly turning people away I figured that I would toss my first post (I think?) on f95 in this thread.

I think the thing for me about this thread is that it reminds me of what the internet was like in the nineties and maybe even early 2000's. It's at least partially due to rose tinted glasses of course, it wasn't like there weren't trolls or arguments. It just seems like somewhere along the line we went from conversations to one-liners and monologues. I suppose levels of intimacy on the internet is a really hard thing to describe. maybe we were more cognizant of the human on the other side of the modem? It sure does feel like some on the internet adopt a Baudrillardian view of internet interactions at least.

It's kind of funny to think about, but since we didn't have any sort of reference as to how one should behave on the internet, we used the polite styles of letter writing, or at least that's part of my guess. It also makes me realize how much more vulnerable it is to write like this than saying things like, "u mad bro?" and "triggered!"

While I don't find them intimidating to post in, threads that are half "save plz", "tell me this thing that was answered a page ago.", "this game doesn't contain my specific fetish! Dev, why did you create such a piece of garbage?" feel like a waste of time to comment in. They are, generally, a good place to find what you want by searching since nearly every question has already been asked if it's past a couple dozen pages.

after all those :words: here's some stuff about the actual game

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

I also had been meaning to post to say thank you to Notty for making a game that actually feels like the author knows what it's like to be an adult. I think it's important for me to post that I sort of swooned when Chris asked for consent.

suwanka my apologies for the delay in getting back to you properly until now. Oddly enough you're not the only person to make their first post in this thread. That probs means something but damned if I know what, tho! :)

I feel as tho I owe you a larger response and yet, re-reading your post, all I can really do is agree. Your points in respect to tone and format very much chime with my own.

Thank you :) As someone who was a player before a dev, I was rather tired of being forced to view the gameplay world through the lens of people who I seriously doubted sometimes had even started shaving...

Also re Chris. Aye. In RL when I get my domme on I find it rather useful to know that peep I'm with actually wants it y'know? So why wouldn't Chris be the same? I suppose it's back to being an adult again :)

On the gameplay spoilers, thanks. I'll check it out what looks like glitches (a game this size with so many paths it's possible I've missed something) but to re-iterate, Annie was going to get drunk that night regardless. She blames herself for what nearly happened on the way down. After all, if we cast our mind, back - she gave Chris the green light to fly....

The thing is, I remember having read somewhere* that it wasn't just an issue of graphic cards but of entire rig that needs replacement. I mean, what good would a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti do if the computer it's attached to cannot even use it? It would be like adding a nuclear reactor to wheelbarrow :x

*is not a stalker, is not a stalker*
Aye, I'm working with a store special PC that I've been able to upgrade the card once on.

But it's the old story now. Although my slot is nicely filled, if I wanted something bigger in there I really need to prepare. More so if I want two slots filled at the same time.
