just started playing the game and holy hell the title does not do it justice at all XD man this game is a mind fuck that makes no sense at all. i love it. however its a shame i find myself liking another game thats far from finished. i really hate it when i find those as usually they start good and end in a dud (as far as i have seen them so far) hope that does not happen with this one.

Get used to that. Pretty sure it is easier to find ice water in hell, than to find a game/vn that doesn't have (at least) one dead parent around here :D
i feel like the orphaned protag trope is used as a device to isolate the mc. you hardly have anywhere to return/belong to so you just don't concern yourself too much w your own past. also makes the protag more dependent on the people currently in their life, and justifies a lack of parental supervision when weird shit's about to happen :illuminati:

wouldn't it be crazy if dad showed up to the harem? and the catch with him is that he don't recognize anybody like bro pls go home lmao

Still beats having to chose one LI to survive and the other to burn to a crisp imho. That went beyond weird shit.
But iirc recreation stated somwhere that he is no friend of killing someone off to further the plot. But I might confuse him with another developer.

Game called Acting Lessons.
id say that's a spoiler if it wasn't for the fact that pink cake spoiled it himself under being a dik lol
still haven't played it myself but i bet its a great game if the state of being a dik is any testament to his writing

oh its one of the best written games. but that ending was really heartbreaking. normally i would have replayed a game where i could get other endings, but since i knew what was going to happen i just couldn´t bring myself to play again.

That's a large part of why I refuse to play that game at all.

Doesn't matter how nice the renders look or how good people keep saying the writing is. I really dislike unavoidable deaths or "gotcha" moments that can't be avoided or mitigated via player choice. Especially if it feels like it comes out of nowhere and is there more for the shock value/to make you feel bad rather than an organic part of the ongoing story. It's the same reason I refuse to play Leap of Faith.

And yes, I acknowledge the "Well, that sort of thing happens in real life!" or "It's more realistic!" arguments, but I don't really play AVNs (or games in general) for "realism". If anything, I play them for escapism. I want to get away from real life and realism. The whole point of player agency is to be able to shape the world to your whims rather than simply getting carried along on the tide of inevitable fate.

I don't mind tragedy overall (and bad endings are fine if it's my own bad choices that led to them), but LIs getting "fridged" or raped or otherwise "broken" out of the blue just to increase drama for the MC always feels a bit icky to me. Especially if the player is given no way to prevent it or save them.

(To be honest, it's the same reason why I wasn't keen at all on the scene in THIS game with Bethany and the tentacles, where even if you pick the fastest option to help her she still gets violated. Especially since it feels like you could have gotten the same emotional rescue moment without going that far. If anything, the scene could be even more cathartic/satisfying if you get there just in the nick of time and save her before anything too bad happens.

Well, assuming you pick the first option to save her. If you just stand around watching obviously it would/should happen regardless.

I always cringe a bit myself when i hear the "it's more realistic" argument. I mean it's a harem based porn game with some incest thrown in in most cases. Where exactly is the realism?
Besides, if i wanted realism i'd go outside. :)

Well, I think the Bethany scene is more about the tentacle porn factor, and it doesn't really end up hurting her in the overall plot.

A little bit of drama is fine and not bad at all, but I also think of games as some kind of releave from the real world, I don't need endless drama, I don't want to play a soap opera, I want to have fun in games, and that's what I'm trying to do with my games: create a fun experience with maybe a little bit of drama on top.

While I'm with most of you, in that there's a certain level of lack of realism I crave in these games, it's still perfectly valid to have a different level of realism that makes you enjoy the game/story. Some people want that grittiness even in their fantasy.

There's also the argument that the bitterness of the lows, helps the highs feel more enjoyable, or be greater victories.

In this particular story, there's also the whole horror/psychological thriller aspect to the story.

Not everything is to everyone's tastes, and that's okay. You don't like the things you don't like. Just make sure you're allowing for the idea that others might like it better that way.

Terrible things can absolutely lead to story, but I also agree that they are often done simply for shock factor, and that's poor writing.

(edited because I thought this was a different thread, and added examples from that game that people here may not be familiar with)

I wish more devs had this mindset, real life already has enough drama.
