I wasn't hugely keen on the game, but I really ended up liking Eve, so it was nice to see them here. Having had Artemis pop in was good, too. Now they just need Zelda. For legal reasons.

Dev Cycle 9 has begun!
It's hard to believe we're closing in on the finish line of our little project, yet here we are.
Tonight, Kent and I selected two new characters for the first scene and began picking up where Chapter 7 left off.
Beginning tomorrow, Kent will begin building art off the first Chapter 8 dialogue, and we're off to the races.
As previously stated, Chapter 8 will be the final one on the island of Tonalu before the story moves back to the States for its conclusion. Entitled "Smoke and Mirrors," the Campbells will get their first real glimpse of how far down the rabbit hole the events surrounding their inheritance go.
Don't expect they'll go wheels-up without opportunities to enjoy some of the alluring distractions along the way!
As development ramps up, continue to check the Previews channel for sneak peeks at what we're cooking up while you wait!
While art renders tomorrow, I will complete the final Chapter 7 build with grammar, spelling, and minor bug fixes, none of which require a replay.

So I'll admit, I passed on trying this game a few times whenever it came up. The premise didn't real catch my interest (pseudo-incest stories always strike me as bottom of the barrel in terms of fostering intimacy) and none of the previews impressed me. I like my eye candy. On whim and a few more recommendations I decided to give it a shot since most of the avns I do have interest in are between updates. I can freely admit my judgement was very wrong.
The renders, while not always perfect, are leagues better than most other avns. The animations on the other hand are stellar; I cannot really think of any other games that come close, let alone match, what is in Chasing Sunsets. The story is surprisingly engaging, so engaging in fact I feel it could stand on its own as a vn without explicit sexual elements at all. Some elements do stretch credulity, but do so because of their scope rather than just being shallow. The writing does get a bit pop-culture reference heavy at times, not enough to detract, but still not my cup of tea. That said, I've never really played an avn with an explicit "main girl" clearly pushed by the script that I found myself accepting and enjoying; yeah, I like Jaye.

On my first play through, I was/am full on 'bet on Red'.
When Alex had the choice to dive in to save Jaye, call for help or abandon her to the sea, I could only choose among the first two options (not complaining) - the third option was greyed out.
I'm actually okay with that as my choices had been so focused on rebuilding the Jaye/MC relationship, I could not choose the option that was absolutely counter to my Jaye/MC story as written by me thus far.
It was still a gut punch when I saw a spoiler for the bad ending after that chapter released.

This update was more proof that Jaye is the author's favored child while Mallory is the unwanted foster kid.
I've been on the Mallory path forever because I can't stand Jaye, and it would appear that the feelings are mutual according to the end of chapter summaries that I've been getting. Jaye doesn't feel that she can count on you. Jaye has begun to actively dislike you. Jaye thinks you're self-serving and dishonest. Jaye thinks you're unreliable and irresponsible.
But then every new chapter starts right back to square one with her being a creepy stalker desperately chasing after him. And the stupid main character refuses to grow at all. No matter how many choices I make to distance him from Jaye, the game keeps insisting that he loves her. This leads us to the first big mistake with the latest part of the Mallory romance path.
Mallory deserves better. Or at least she did, before she one ups the main character with an even worse bit of writing as the above conversation continues.
At this point, I'm tempted to grab Bianca and take her up to the mountains to start a milf harem with Linda. Or maybe an everyone but Jaye harem. Lisa, Tanaka, and Tara have already had a taste of us, so bring them all back for more. Crazy lady from Europe can join in to because why not. It's a porn game and that means every single woman must be bisexual and open for sharing with the MC at all times, right?
But wait! There's more. We also get a ridiculously stupid flashback scene after the chapter ends to a time where the main character got a visit from his parents after not seeing them in five years.
It's so frustrating to watch this game fall short of living up to its potential. It's got great renders and a decent set up for a good story, but it just fails to allow players to follow through with the choices they are making. Instead, the devs keep thrusting their favourites on us. First Jaye, and now Amanda.

Yeah, the threesome thing felt pretty awkward in general. It didn't feel organic... like at all. On the Mallory path, they just barely established an exclusive relationship, and barely hinted that Amanda kind of liked Alex. One chapter later and there's kinky bondage threesomes. It was hot, but it seemed kind of out of left field.
I'm still on the Mallory train though. But after Chapter 7, I think Bianca and Lisa have closed the gap a little more.

I share your sentiment of Mallory being relegated too much to the role of second LI 'but only because playing a game with only one LI seemed bad', but in my opinion you overlook two aspects
the fact that MC had feelings for Jaye is considered a fact, it's not optional, it's the foundation of the story such that it still justifies the 5 years on the run.
in the threesome what is jarring is the sudden bond/interest that MC would have with Amanda and vice versa, because instead I find Mallory's submissive attitude quite in character, I don't find too much her insecurity that makes her believe she's not enough, in the end she still feels like a monster, and having discovered she's a half clone of MC's mother I don't think it could have calmed her down.
personally in this game I have 2 LIs, one with whom I find it hard to have empathy, whose choices and attitudes I don't share, and another who although on the contrary is more understandable to me has a completely random story.
I give two examples: Jaye's infatuation for MC is so superficial and unmotivated, that as soon as it is encouraged any reasoning is overtaken by the great AVN classic, 'he has a huge penis, I want him'
on the other hand we have Mallory, the half-crazed journalist who, in the midst of a legal war, is granted full access to confidential documents, (who just happens to have a dying friend who needs to override all medical protocol to be cured... and who ends up being kidnapped by the bad guys' killer... OK

Yep, the more I play this game and after every chapter release I see more and more cracks in the plot in general, once it was my favorite VN but it's no longer in the top 3 anymore.
Such a waste of potential.
I know it's not going to be a fair comparison because Stone Fox are just a bunch of amateurs on their first project...But The Wire is my favorite show of all time and I appreciated it way more after my second and 3rd watch, but its the opposite with this VN, it's getting worse, the story starting to show its cracks.
I get that Jaye is not your jam.
I have not played the Mallory primary, intentionally reject Jaye, path.
I think that this story is well written for the most likely paths many of the supporters would choose.
I think it would take far too long to develop revs if the dev's were to give equal weight to all paths, regardless of the likelihood of a high percentage of supporters playing certain paths.
It is part of why consigning Jaye to the sea (versus risking your life to save her or call for help) gets a bad ending.
I believe that every 'good' ending in Chasing Sunsets includes the survival of both Alex and Jaye.
I actually liked the Sicily in between moment. This was hinted at during the first full day that Alex and Jaye were on the Yacht and Alex asked to defer talking about that for at least a time. Jaye also found out about this by reading Alex's journals, although he included no details.
I think that the ring is absolutely in character for Jaye and that memory does not include any of the animosity that we can choose to build with Jaye since the parents are dead by the time he has that flashback.
That flashback is about what existed before Alex left (and the impact his choices made on Jaye up through the graduation fight) and there are no hints that Alex renounced his affection/love for Jaye during the visit in Sicily.
What Alex does with the ring now will be based on who we have chosen Alex to be, and who he wants to be with and I am fine with that.
