Yes, you're right, ultimately you end up picking for the MC the girl you would pick because you're projecting yourself somewhat into the MC for purposes of the story. This is in large part why it confuses me so much. I guess we're all products of our history and preferences. It's fun to look at the different paths and see what would happen, but if it was you who would you choose for yourself? It's really buging you, right?
Well, and since they all have feelings for the Mc, in the end you can't make them all happy anyway. No harem ending, here. And as in life, you can try to assess what the collateral damage will be the least important, by choosing path "A", rather than path B C or D, you still leave B, C, and D behind. So path A would be the one that makes B,C, and D less unhappy hoping that A is fully satisfied. This is typically altruistic reasoning, and very nice in theory, but completely flawed when it comes to feelings. The Mc is happy whatever path YOU choose, so if you choose according to this principle of fairness, it makes YOU, the player, the fifth wheel of the carriage. But looking more broadly, I think you're right about that. Why this craze for Cece? Probably we can feel the duty to help her and be by her side. Leaving her behind can cause feelings of guilt because she seems the most vulnerable.
There's also Linda who's really been in love with the Mc for a long time, but since you can hook her up with Chris, that might be an alternative for those who think the friend zone is a problem. Lexi has Holly, Kira has Robin and Steph made her choice by being a secret agent, although I feel sorry for her because she is left alone for having wanted to protect the life of the Mc.
But to tell the truth, and looking at the stats, there are a lot of people here who are making a choice that they wouldn't make, or haven't made in their real life, because the game allows an alternative that will perhaps compensate for the choice (s) they have made in reality, or simply as for many and myself to wonder: And if I had chosen this girl rather than that one..... And go on. It is said that well-ordered charity begins with oneself. Starting from this principle, we should start by being selfish, and think first of ourselves, to then become altruistic and think of others. After all, can't we make people happy only when we are happy ourselves?
I would not pick Cece if it was me because I simply wouldn't want to be looking over my shoulder my whole life worrying. That is particularly true if we were having a child. I have a young son and would be appalled to have in that kind of situation with someone who wasn't whole and fully comfortable with themself. Likewise Kira and Robin are really all about each other and I know there's paths for each (which I haven't done yet) but they've spent the whole story convincing us that they're for each other pretty much so I rule them out. Steph had her chance but blew it because she didn't trust you and left you hanging out to dry. Lexi is a toss up. She's still kind of a kid in a lot of ways but she'll grow out of that, and if she limited her public exposure and cut down on the touring that might be fine. For me personally I would hate the fame aspect. I like my privacy. That leaves Linda and Holly. So, you can argue either way on Linda. You can say that if anything was going to happen it should have by now, but there are also friendships that do grow into relationships as people realize that they're good for each other and they have good history together. MC liked Holly from the get go, was a great influence for him over the summer and seems stable, smart and great looking. Less history but more immediate chemistry. It seems like MC in a logical world should end up with one of these two (and Chris will take the other) with Lexi perhaps as a dark horse. Of course, emotions are intangible, but since I'm using mine I'm just going to run with that.
Now, to be clear I don't begrudge anyone their choice and preference. Everybody likes something different and variety is the spice of life. I totally understand choosing Cece and can see the attraction even as I see the downsides. What strikes me as odd is the unbalanced reaction of a large group of people leaning towards her. It seems to me that under normal circumstances the distribution should be wider and in my mind I'm trying to understand why that is. Really and truly the only one I would say is a flat no would be Steph, because she screwed MC over already and that colossal a screwup would be irreparable for me.
